Te Whiwhinga mahi The opportunity
As a Senior Technician youll play a key role in supporting researchers engaged in animal-based studies and manage the day-to-day operations of the Integrated Physiology Unit (IPU). Youll ensure the welfare of animals maintain compliance with ethical and legislative requirements and provide training advice and technical assistance to staff and students.
Key accountabilities include (not limited to):
- Managing daily operations of the Integrated Physiology Unit and ensuring a high standard of facility performance.
- Supporting animal research through expert care handling and husbandry practices.
- Acting as the Medicines and Dispensary Officer for the School overseeing controlled substances and compliance documentation.
- Supporting researchers with approved animal procedures and ensuring accurate record keeping.
- Contributing to the Schools animal ethics compliance audits and inspections.
This role offers a varied mix of hands-on animal care technical problem-solving and compliance oversight in a collaborative academic environment where your expertise makes a tangible difference.
This role is a part-time (22.5 hrs pw) permanent position - role is based primarily onsite
Remuneration: $72000- $84709 per annum dependent on experience (pro-rated)

He kōrero mōu About you
You will bring:
- A Bachelors degree in Animal Science or a related field (a postgraduate qualification is an advantage).
- At least five years experience in a technical or research facility including three years of hands-on animal care experience.
- Proven competence in rodent handling and husbandry and familiarity with the ethical health and safety frameworks governing animal research.
- Excellent interpersonal skills attention to detail and the ability to manage operations effectively in a busy research environment.
- Experience in biological containment facilities and with small non-rodent species would be beneficial.
