Job Summary

Title: Drama Coach/Theater Director 5-8 FY252692

Reports to: Activities Director


Location: Middle School

Start Date: November - February

Status: Coach is expected to attend all practices Monday through Friday usually from 3:30-5:15.

Will be responsible for coaching both Fall and Spring performances which include a total of 6 weeks work each performance.

Essential Job Duties

  • Teaches acting principles and techniques to individuals or groups: Conducts readings to evaluate students talent.
  • Teaches enunciation diction voice development and dialects using voice exercises speech drills explanation lectures and improvisation.
  • 4) Discusses and demonstrates vocal and body expression to teach acting styles character development and personality projection.
  • Produces and directs plays for school and public performances.
  • Auditions students to select cast and assign parts.
  • Assigns nonperforming students to backstage production tasks such as constructing painting moving scenery operating stage light and sound equipment.
  • May direct activities of students involved in constructing painting and lighting scenery.

  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of all District requirements and Board policies.
  • Skill in adhering to safety practices.

Required Qualifications

  1. Any combination of training education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school.
  1. Successful experience in high school or college drama.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Successful experience coaching middle school students in drama.

Necessary special requirements:

  • Montana Drivers license or the ability to obtain license within three months of hire date.
  • Ability to attend practices and productions including those falling on evenings and weekends.

Physical and Mental Demands and Work Hazards

  • Performs routine work.
  • Regularly works inside with minimal temperature variations.
  • Ability to meet deadlines with severe time constraints.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
  • Frequently required to sit; occasionally walk and stand.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Required to be able to hear conversations in loud and quiet environments.
  • May be required to lift or carry up to 20 pounds on an infrequent basis with or without an accommodation.
  • Guidance and reinforcement are usually unavailable.
  • The employee frequently works within time constraints and must maintain attentiveness intensity.
  • Frequently involved in interactions which require oral and written communications.
  • Exercises flexibility and the ability to shift from one task to another.
  • Occasional travel/mobiility between schools or between schools and the Administration office may be required.
  • Occasionally works near moving mechanical parts.
  • Effective hearing and speech abilities.
  • Work area is generally a hazard free environment.
  • Demonstrates regular attendance performing duties as described.
  • Reports to work fit for duty with characteristics inherent to the position.
