Summary

The Department of Computer Science at Bowling Green State University invites applications for a full-time 12- month qualified-rank (i.e. non-tenure-track) faculty position in the area of Software Engineering at the Assistant Teaching Professor level. The start date is July 2026.

The Department of Computer Science is located within the College of Arts and Sciences. The vision for our College aligned with the universitys strategic plan is to ensure that our students graduate career-ready to meet the worlds challenges and that our faculty research and creative activity contribute to the public good. We achieve this through robust collaboration across departmental boundaries with particular attention given to increasing experiential learning for our undergraduate and graduate students and connecting our scholarly and creative work to the needs of our region. We are especially interested in recruiting candidates who can contribute excellence in teaching scholarly/creative work and/or service toward achieving excellence throughout the university and to the greater community. The College is committed to faculty success providing resources and support within the Deans Office and through collaboration with Arts and Sciences departments and schools leadership teams in other colleges and university-serving partners such as the Center for Faculty Excellence. Through these connections we have developed a comprehensive cohort-based mentorship program to support the professional growth and advancement of faculty across all disciplines and ranks. The Department currently has 15 full-time faculty members with national and/or international reputations about 330 undergraduate majors and 90 graduate students. Undergraduate students pursue baccalaureate degrees in computer science and software engineering and graduate students pursue an M.S. in Computer Science or in Data Science as well as a Ph.D. in Data Science. The B.S. in Computer Science is accredited by the Computing Accreditation Commission of ABET. The B.S. in Software Engineering is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET. The Department will also be offering an interdisciplinary undergraduate degree a B.S. in Artificial Intelligence X (pending the Ohio Department of Higher Educations approval) and an online M.S. in Software Engineering. Essential Functions

Teaching Effectiveness Expectations
- Teach a variety of undergraduate and graduate courses with a particular focus on the new online M.S. in Software Engineering program.
- Develop and teach online courses in key areas such as Application Development and Software Engineering
- Utilize inclusive pedagogies and course design to effectively promote student learning in both online and face-to-face environments.
- Engage in curriculum development and innovation to maintain the quality and relevance of the departments course offerings with an emphasis on developing new online content.
- Advise undergraduate and especially graduate students in the online M.S. in Software Engineering program.
- Maintain currency in the discipline through continuous professional development.

Service Expectations
- Participate in student recruitment and retention particularly for the new online M.S. in Software Engineering program and other initiatives that support the mission of the institution.
- Provide service at multiple levels including the department college and university.
- Contribute to the academic community and relevant professional organizations through various service activities.

Minimum Qualifications

- Ph.D. or equivalent in computer science software engineering or a closely related discipline (e.g. computer engineering computer information systems); OR a masters degree in a relevant field with at least five years of professional experience in software engineering or development. ABDs will be considered if the requirements for the degree will be completed by August 2026
- Teaching experience at the college level as a course instructor teaching assistant guest lecturer or practicum instructor

Preferred Qualifications
- Teaching experience at the college level (course instructor teaching assistant guest lecturer teaching practicum) including online course delivery in the area of software engineering such as Application Development DevOps Software Analysis and Design Software Quality Assurance Agile Project Management.
- Experience with online curriculum development and utilizing learning management systems.
- Institutional professional or community-level service experience including experience related to program administration or student support for online programs.
- Professional experience in the software engineering industry such as experience as a senior developer architect or technical lead; OR research experience in software engineering as evidenced by peerreviewed publications reports or scientific presentations at conferences or workshops.
