Job Summary

JOB TITLE: Fleet Technician

LOCATION: Saint Louis Zoo WildCare Park

DIVISION: Facilities Management

DEPARTMENT: Maintenance

REPORTS TO: Manager Maintenance

CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt

POSITION TYPE: Full-Time

SUMMARY: The Fleet Technician will perform the general maintenance and repair of the physical facilities and grounds throughout the Saint Louis Zoo WildCare Park. As an active member of Facilities Management this position will support the Zoos mission and advocate the Zoos core values and three keys.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The following reflects the Zoos definition of essential functions for this position but does not restrict additional assigned tasks. The Zoo may assign or reassign duties and responsibilities to this position.

  • Maintain automotive heavy equipment and grounds related equipment including but not limited to skid loader tractor mower weed eater car truck and power equipment.
  • Conduct preventative and routine service on automotive small and heavy equipment.
  • Perform a variety of minor building maintenance duties.
  • Assist with the cultivation and care of the grounds and perimeter fence line.
  • Utilize the CMMS work order system for work scheduling preventative maintenance programs and record keeping.
  • De-ice and clear snow from walks pathways roadways and parking lots throughout the Saint Louis Zoo WildCare Park during inclement weather.
  • Provide on-call weekend or evening event coverage if needed.
  • Ensure that proper safety guidelines and usage of PPE are followed at all times.
  • Know and understand the Saint Louis Zoo WildCare Park employee handbook and adhere to all stated disciplinary actions and personnel policies.
  • Work in close collaboration with all internal departments.
  • Reporting to the Saint Louis Zoo WildCare Park this position may be assigned tasks at the Sears Lehmann Jr. Wildlife Reserve or the Saint Louis Zoo.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervision of other employees is not a responsibility of this position.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum three years of experience in the technical fields involving automotive maintenance required.
  • Certification or undergraduate degree preferred.
  • Possession or the ability to obtain OSHA 10/30-Hour Training certification.
  • Commitment to excellence and high standards.
  • Good attendance record and work ethic.
  • Versatility flexibility and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm.
  • Possession or the ability to obtain a Missouri Class E Drivers License is required for residents of Missouri.
  • All successful candidates for this position will be required to undergo a criminal background check and a drug test. As this is a safety-sensitive role a negative drug test result is mandatory. The drug test screens for five substances including marijuana.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to push pull bend squat stoop climb stairs or ladders and twist many times a day.
  • Must be able to safely lift carry and load 50 pounds.
  • Physical capacity to endure exposure to inclement weather dust heavy machinery restraint devices and hazardous chemicals. Use of proper PPE may be required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • This position will work in both a shop environment and outside. Significant exposure to weather is possible.
