Job Summary

LEAD BRIDGE MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN

General Summary of the Position:



Roy Jorgensen Associates Inc. is currently seeking full-time Skilled Highway Maintenance Technicians to work on the Traveling Bridge Crew to perform advanced maintenance operations in the US primarily in VA and TN. This crew preferred to be based in the Northern Virginia area but will consider based in Nashville TN and must be able to work during the day shift mid shift and night shift. This position requires performing a variety of tasks related to multi-level highway bridge repair maintenance concrete repair finger joint maintenance while adhering to all applicable federal state and local regulations as well as Jorgensen Company policies and procedures.

Travel requirements: 75% of the time overnight travel. First 6 months of work are scheduled in Alexandria Virginia and Nashville Tennessee but not guaranteed to remain in Virginia or Tennessee.

Major Functions of the Job

  1. Be familiar with various parts of roadway concrete and steel bridge/structure repair drainage structures guardrail and sign installation concrete forming/repair and other road assets and correct work methods for various activities required to maintain and repair highway infrastructure.
  2. Perform Amour and finger joint repair and replacement. Repair and install various styles and joint products.
  3. Install polymer nosing asphalt plug and silicone.
  4. Operate saws sand blaster jack hammer chipping hammer rivet buster hot pour rubber machines air compressor and welding equipment.
  5. Will use shovels weed trimming machinery brooms & various small hand tools
  6. Perform a variety of maintenance tasks while leading a team effectively.
  7. Continuously train maintenance technicians in the most effective work methods and techniques.
  8. Know the current standards and specifications required for each highway infrastructure repair.
  9. Effective scheduling of work to maximize the work day and meet deadlines.
  10. Properly complete Daily Work Reports.
  11. Safely operate hand/power tools and equipment required to do each job; care for and maintain these tools and equipment in order to ensure long lasting use.
  12. Follow all site safety precautions and procedures and maintain a secure job site to eliminate potential safety hazards.
  13. Safely operate company owned SUV and up to ¾-ton pickup trucks.

Minor Functions of the Job

  1. Complete daily logs and perform routine maintenance checks on assigned vehicles: check fluids air filter tire pressure change tire etc.
  2. Participate in weekly safety meetings and required training.
  3. Be a dependable and reliable member of the team.
  4. Show initiative; seek out work and get the job done without being told.
  5. Provide assistance to other workers as necessary.
  6. communicate clearly with supervisors and other team members.

Required Experience:

  • Candidate must have knowledge of all aspects of concrete bridge repair
    • Concrete structure repair
    • Amour and finger joint repair and replacement
    • Repair and installation of various styles of joint products.
    • Bridge Demolition
    • Installation polymer nosing asphalt plug silicone.
  • Should be well versed in equipment operations.
    • Sawing jack hammer chipping hammer rivet buster
    • Working knowledge of hot pour rubber machines
    • Sand blasting welding
  • Knowledge of traffic control devices lane closures etc.
  • Knowledge of steel bridge repair a plus
  • Exposure to using shovels weed trimming machinery brooms & various small hand tools
  • Air compressor operations familiarity
  • Sandblasting equipment and operation/safety knowledge
  • Minimum 5 years of related experience
  • Must have a valid Drivers License Class-A a plus
  • Construction or Roadway maintenance experience
  • Guardrail sign experience
  • Concrete forming/repair experience
  • MOT (Traffic control certifications/courses)
  • Lockout/Tagout Wheel Loader Skidsteer Fork Lift Asphalt Roller etc operator
  • Crew & Compensation management.
  • Structure repair

Bilingual: English/Spanish (read/write) preferred but not required

Clean driving record is essential
Must pass criminal background check

Physical Requirements and Environmental Factors

  1. Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds repeatedly.
  2. Will ascend/descend structures to perform job duties.
  3. Work safe and independently in vehicle traffic zones.
  4. Ability to work safely in a wide range of environmental and weather conditions (i.e. work in hot cold or wet conditions for extended periods of time).
  5. Ability to stand for extended periods of time while operating equipment.
  6. Must wear personal protective equipment at all times on job site.

Qualifications:

Must be knowledgeable in computer skills and Microsoft Office apps
High School Diploma/GED
Maintain company standards for background checks (i.e. criminal record driving record and controlled substance/drug testing)
Knowledge of local driving rules and regulations
Carry out simple arithmetic functions
Maintain proper safety equipment required for each job
Knowledge and ability to adapt to the latest technology
Ability to use smart phone and applications
Ability to adjust to changing work schedule
Ability to work safely under ranging environmental and weather conditions
Capable of lifting up to 50 pounds and Ability to operate hand/power tools

Schedule:
Full time; Day Mid and Night shift available. Must be able to work weather events such as snow ice and floods.

Special Position Requirements

This position requires independent and team work under ranging weather and environmental conditions including high vehicle traffic operations. All employees must adhere to Jorgensens safety policy employment policies procedures and programs and contribute to the PACT culture.

Work Requirements

Jorgensen operates a 24 hour/7 day a week operation. Work schedules will vary by work load client requests location and emergency conditions. All employees are expected to work various schedules and at times assist with emergency situations and perform on call activities as assigned.
