Job Summary

The Max Planck Institute of Molecular Cell Biology and Genetics in Dresden Germany is an institute of the world-renowned Max Planck Society conducting ground-breaking biomedical research at the forefront of science. Currently about 500 employees work at the institute where half are from abroad representing 53 nations. The institute has won several prizes for its optimal work conditions and family-friendly environment. English is the working language of the institute.

The newly established lab of Dr. Madalena Reimão Pinto investigates the molecular mechanisms regulating mRNA translation during zebrafish embryogenesis. As embryos develop how do cells know how much protein to make as they differentiate The lab aims to uncover how mRNA 5UTR sequence motifs control translational dynamics to identify the effector RNA binding proteins and their roles in embryogenesis. Moreover we explore how 5 UTR isoforms contribute to proteome diversification and cell fate acquisition during development. To address these questions we combine the power of the zebrafish embryo with quantitative biochemical imaging next-generation sequencing and computational approaches. Our vision is to create a collaborative international inclusive environment where exciting discoveries in RNA biology can thrive while fostering the skills and career development of lab members.
