This is the advanced journey level of the Equipment Operator job class series requiring at least three (3) years of equipment operation experience. You will operate specialized maintenance and snow/ice control equipment to excavate install maintain and repair airport facilities and roadways keeping aircraft movement areas safe and operational through Juneaus winter conditions. This role is safety-critical and mission-driven supporting reliable air service for the region.

WORKING HOURS AND LOCATION
This position involves shift work that includes days nights weekends holidays occasional overtime and being on-call. Additionally this position also requires recalls to the airport for emergencies and weather events. The airport operates 24 hours per day year-round and winter season staffing is 24/7. The winter operations schedule begins in late October and continues until March 31st.
The incumbent performs a combination of job functions that vary throughout the winter season. Employees work under general supervision execute specific instructions and are completely responsible for the safe operation of heavy maintenance and snow removal equipment. Employees must apply appropriate guidelines such as safe operating procedures to the specific equipment used.
Three (3) years of maintenance and/or construction experience in roadways bridges airport runways taxiways ramps and/or aprons. This experience must include operating heavy and light motorized equipment in the construction and/or maintenance of streets roadways or utilities airports runways and taxiways ramps and aprons using hand and power tools performing minor servicing of equipment and applying safety procedures;
AND
Demonstrated proficiency on a motor grader regardless of conditions.
Substitution: Completion of a CBJ equipment operation-training program may substitute for one year of specialized experience. Certification of completion of training from other agencies will be considered for equivalency as a substitute for the CBJ training program.
Valid Class A Commercial Drivers License with Tanker (N) endorsement attime of application however must obtainvalidClass A State of Alaska Commercial Drivers License with Tanker (N) endorsementby time of appointment if selected.
Must pass a TSA-required security check per 49 CFR 1542 and 1544 and Airport Security Program. This will require an FBI fingerprint criminal history records check. Continued employment is contingent on ability to maintain a favorable security check.
Certification as an ATSSA Flagger (or equivalent) within6 months of appointment andfor continued employment.
OSHA Requirements: This position may also require attendance at and certification (as available) in CPR First Aid and Confined Space Entrant and/or attendant within18 months of appointment.
Special Note*Initial appointment to all FMCSA positions requiring a CDL will be made conditionally pending (1) receipt of verified negative results of pre-employment testing for controlled substances and (2) passing a 3 year drug & alcohol testing background check with previous DOT employers. Employees must register with the FMCSA Clearinghouse and provide CBJ with paper and electronic consent for a full query of the drivers Clearinghouse record. Employee will then be subject to the City and Boroughs drug-testing program. Information Employment is subject to completion of a TSA Security Threat Assessment (STA) and a Criminal History Records Check (CHRC) including an FBI fingerprint-based background check in accordance with 49 CFR Parts 1542 and 1544 and the Airport Security Program.
