Senior Engineer

A Day in the Life of a Senior Transportation Engineer

The team will turn to you for complex creative solutions for active transportation designs. Whether its reimagining busy streetscapes or crafting scenic trails you lead and mentor a talented interdisciplinary team to deliver standout multimodal projects in every setting.

Youll roll up your sleeves in AutoCAD or MicroStation guide big-picture visioning and share your know-how through every phase-from concept to construction. You will develop business relationships with clients and participate in business development pursuits. Youll also work closely with clients communities and agencies navigating high-profile projects that shape the places people love.

Work Schedule for a Senior Transportation Engineer

This full-time position typically works a flexible schedule of 40 hours a week. We also provide employees with the flexibility and necessary equipment to work from home up to 2 days per week. The Atlanta office of Toole Design is conveniently located in Inman Park along the Beltline. The office is easily accessed on foot by bicycle and via transit.

Qualifications of a Senior Transportation Engineer:

• Bachelors or masters degree in civil engineering or related field
• Professional Engineering license
• 10 years of experience developing construction documents for roadways or highways
• 5 years of experience serving in a project or design management role with a track record of progressively responsible work managing projects
• A broad knowledge base in civil engineering with specific experience in grading drainage design and 3D modeling roadway geometric design and design of accessible public spaces
• General experience in leading multidisciplinary teams coordinating utility and right-of-way impacts and street lighting traffic signal and landscape/hardscape layout
• Experience in Computer Automated Design (AutoCAD or MicroStation) and a design software (Civil 3D or OpenRoads)
• Experience reviewing construction plans and providing constructive feedback
• Experience developing construction documents cost estimates and specifications
• Interest in multimodal and active transportation issues and design (specifically for bicycle pedestrian Safe Routes to School and/or transit integration) for all ages and abilities

It would be a plus if you have:

• Experience in preparing transportation and local agency design documents including the GDOT Plan Development Process (PDP)
• Experience preparing proposals and scope/fees
• Experience in business development including networking with colleagues and clients at public events industry organizations (e.g. ITE ASHE or ASCE) and agency organized events
• Experience with stormwater design software is a plus (e.g. HydroCAD or HydroFlow)
• A desire to manage mentor and inspire staff
• Willingness to perform site or client visits
