JOB SUMMARY:
Provide instructional support to teachers ensuring students become proficient in all endeavors. This position also will be directly involved with the Reflection Room in its assigned building. The Instructional Assistant II special education will support the Reflection Room by implementing restorative behavior interventions and data collection as designed by the lead RBT. They will help facilitate the rooms smooth operation by welcoming students guiding them through de-escalation and reflection activities and managing the flow of students returning to class.
In the Reflection Room this role requires maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment while ensuring all procedures are followed with fidelity. The IAII will be instrumental in reinforcing replacement behaviors so students can successfully return to their classroom.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist students with classroom assignments tests and activities ensuring that students understand all assignments given by the teacher especially those who take longer to understand materials.
- Assist in developing and maintaining a positive classroom environment to encourage positive behavior from students.
- Assist students during morning and or afternoon duties; supervise students during assemblies.
- Tutor individuals or small groups of children utilizing materials and approaches as designed by the classroom teacher.
- Assist teacher with planning and evaluating functions as designed by the teacher.
- Assist in diagnosing learning difficulties and report learning problems to the teacher.
- Implement behavior support plan and monitor student progress to ensure students are following discipline policies and procedures as directed by the supervising teacher.
- Document and report relevant information regarding student progress behavioral changes or physical needs to the teacher as required.
- Attend and participate in staff meetings workshops and in-service programs.
- Assist in preparation of materials needed for instruction including but not limited to flash cards filmstrips learning centers and games.
- Prepare materials for extra study and review.
- Perform clerical duties including but not limited to copying filing computer input and bulletin boards.
- Assist children with self-help activities such as feedingtoileting and dressing as needed.
- Collaborate and provide support for students in regular education classrooms.
- Provide supervision and continue classroom activities in the brief absence of the teacher.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal and the Learning Support Teacher.

SECONDARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Escort students from the cafeteria to the playground for recess; supervise students while on the playground ensuring their safety.
- Distribute lunch tickets to students as needed; escort students to the cafeteria and supervise students in the cafeteria during lunch period.
- Escort students from the cafeteria to their encore classes and from classes to the playground.
- Monitor students as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
High School diploma required
Minimum of 48 or more undergraduate credits or a Credential of Competency via PDE/PaTTAn educational obligation required.
Associates Degree preferred
Twenty hours of Professional Development required each year and completion of Credential of Competency if the candidate does not have the minimum of 48 or more undergraduate credits.
Two (2) years experience with children necessary
Submission of pre-employment medical examination (Section 148 of the Pennsylvania School Code)
Submission of a report of criminal history record from the Pennsylvania State Police (Section 111 of the Pennsylvania School Code)
FBI Criminal History Record
Submission of a clearance report from the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare in accordance with Act 151 of 1994
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable
