The University Department of Neurology is seeking a Research Assistant to support the Neurogenetics/Neuromuscular research team in projects investigating how genetic alterations cause disease of the nervous system. The Research Assistant will serve as primary coordinator for the Hereditary Spastic Paraplegia (HSP) clinic and the clinical research consortium assisting physicians and nurse coordinators with all aspects of clinical research. Additionally this position will serve as the primary assessor for all HSP clinical outcome measures as well as the backup assessor for Charcot-Marie-Tooth (CMT) specific outcome measures.
Duties Include:
Manage overall site coordination and activation for newly created hereditary spastic paraplegia clinic
Perform research activities based on clinical evaluations of patients with HSP Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease and other neurogenetic conditions.

- Perform research activities based on clinical evaluations of patients with HSP Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease and other neurogenetic conditions.
- Become certified and perform HSP functional outcome measures along with CMT assessments both in-person and virtually for clinical and research purposes.
- Travel to investigator meetings trainings and as needed for research studies.
- Facilitate and track research sample collection and shipments.
Read and review relevant articles concerning Charcot Marie Tooth disease (CMT) and HSP.
- Read and understand the various protocols that constitute the The Spastic Paraplegia Centers for Excellence Research Network (SP-CERN) Inherited Neuropathy Clinic (INC) Rare Disease Clinical Research Consortium (RDCRC) and the North American CMT Network
Actively participate in and coordinate several protocols from the HS-CERN INC and industry sponsors
- Prepare reports and contribute to manuscripts.
- Assist with research projects being performed by other clinical team members.
- Collect data analyze data track data prepare materials and perform data entry for reports.
Prepare bibliographies and abstracts for publication.
- Perform a variety of routine tasks related to the recruitment enrollment and monitoring of research subjects or to the research environment of the INC.
Obtain subject consent and assist with IRB submissions or equivalent protocol.
- Schedule patients (clinical and research)
- Assist in the preparation calibration and maintenance of equipment used in the clinic.
- Assist with procurement of supplies and materials.

Pay Grade: 3A - note: This is a specified term position that will last 12 months. An extension may be reviewed after the initial 12 months but is not guaranteed.
