PhD Thesis on Cryptographically Verifiable Security for Aerospace Systems (d/f/m)

We at Airbus Central Research & Technology work on cutting edge technologies for future airborne and spaceborne systems. Our objective is to provide novel functionalities while simultaneously reducing the environmental footprint of Airbus products and services. You will become part of a research team whose work focuses on the development of secure communication systems and their potential applications in the field of aviation. Your impact will be on exploration and design of novel cryptographic applications within a Zero Trust Architecture (ZTA) to solve critical challenges in avionics. You will contribute to a groundbreaking framework that replaces implicit trust with verifiable certainty directly impacting the safety and security of future aviation.

Your tasks and responsibilities

  • Research and development of security protocols for attestation authorization and integrity of distributed systems.

  • Exploring and defining novel use cases for Zero Trust principles within the unique and demanding context of aerospace engineering.

  • Contributing to a paradigm shift in how we secure safety-critical systems in an increasingly connected world.

Desired skills and qualifications

  • A Masters degree in Computer Science Computer Engineering Electrical Engineering or a related security-focused field.

  • A strong foundation in applied cryptography including Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) digital certificates and secure network protocols (e.g. TLS IPSec).

  • Excellent mathematical and analytical skills with the ability to dissect and understand complex algorithms.

  • Hands-on programming experience with Python C/C and proficiency in a Linux environment (including shell scripting).

  • An independent self-motivated mindset with an enthusiasm for working in a dynamic and agile research environment.
