We are seeking a dynamic highly motivated Registered Nurse who demonstrates our values of compassion accountability responsiveness and empowerment to our clients families and each other.
The Registered Nurse working with the Special Care Unit will provide registered nursing support within a primary health care setting employing harm reduction principles. This is an exciting opportunity to work with one of Canadas MAP (Managed Alcohol/Opioid Program) and to make a difference in a clients life by assisting a team of client care workers to support clients in addressing goals and needs in order to cope better when they return to the community!
This position focuses on on-site learning harm reduction client centred care and holistic health management. You will be able to provide ongoing engagement with the clients as this position is on-site in our transitional housing-managed alcohol program.
This position is a non-unionized full-time temporary position. The contract is January 1 2026 December 31 2026. The rate of pay is $42.44 per hour. Hours per week are 40. The schedule is Tuesday Wednesday andThursday 3:00 PM 11:00 PM and Saturday and Sunday 8:00 AM 4:00 PM.
Key Responsibilities:
- Welcome and interact with those accessing the program and be available and approachable.
- Provide nursing care to clients of the Special Care Unit and direction and oversight of the Unregulated Care Providers in the program.
- Implementation and Evaluation of Health Care Plans.
- Able to clearly articulate and demonstrate knowledge of the role of the nurse in an evidence-based harm reduction environment.
- Able to clearly articulate and demonstrate the role of the nurse in working with both unregulated and regulated health providers as well as social service staff and the Medical Director to provide direct care.
- Able to effectively communicate verbally and in writing nursing care needs.
- Documents and communicates nursing assessments including client intakes including advance directives and client issues documentation and nursing care daily for all clients.
- Administers medications including controlled substances.
- Supervises care given by RPNs and nursing students provides instruction and direction to RPN staff and nursing students and identifies and provides ongoing training.
- Follows up on care provided including laboratory tests medication administration hygiene nutrition etc.
What you will bring:
- Minimum of a Bachelors degree in nursing.
- College of Nurses of Ontario certificate of competence.
- Several years ofnursing experience preferably in an urban core setting and/or in the continuum of addiction treatment including harm reduction and/or concurrent disorders mental health fields would be an asset.
- Ability to work as part of a team but also to take initiative and work independently to achieve required results.
- Excellent communication skills.
