POSITION DESCRIPTION:To reduce barriers to communication so that all multilingual students and their families can access the full range of academic social-emotional and extracurricular programming at Southeastern.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Works in coordination with the District and High School Administrators to model equitable and inclusive practices and to foster a learning environment where everyone feels seen valued and respected.
- Translates IEPs and 504s in Spanish and coordinates translation into other world languages as needed.
- Translates other documents as assigned by the Vice Principal of Curriculum Instruction and Assessment the Principal and/or the Superintendent.
- Interprets for Spanish-speaking students and families in Special Education Guidance Admissions or any other administrative meeting needs and coordinates interpretation for other world languages as needed.
- Interprets for Spanish-speaking families during outreach events (Open House Benchmark testing Orientation Expectations night Family Conferences) and assists in coordinating interpreters in accordance with the language needs of students and families.
- Interprets and translates in Spanish for SEPAC and EL PAC meetings translates related documents and coordinates interpretation and translation services for other world languages.
- Coordinates Translation Center disseminating items for translation organizing translations and returning to requester.
- Provides interpretation and translation support directly to students in shop or academic classes when requested by supervisor.
- Provides interpretation and translation support directly to families when requested by supervisor.
- Organizes outreach to Newcomer and multilingual families including within their sending communities.
- Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
- Respects student confidentiality in all contact with any third party.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or designee.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Fluency in written and spoken Spanish.
- National Association of Educational Translators and Interpreters of Spoken Languages (NAETISL) Tier 3 Certification.
- Bachelors Degree in World Languages or related field.
- At least three years experience as a multilingual translator and interpreter.
- Strong Microsoft and Google Suite skills.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to create positive relationships.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications that the Superintendent may find acceptable and appropriate.
OUR STUDENTS:Southeastern is a diverse multicultural vocational technical high school that serves over 1600 students from the City of Brockton and eight surrounding towns. Our students balance the rigors of a complete academic course of studies with technical skill training in over 20 career majors. Upon graduation our students are well-prepared for college a career or further technical training.
COMPENSATION:This positionis school-year andis paid in 21 equal installments from September- June or from the initial start date to the end date.
