Job Summary

Creates high quality digital assets to fulfill the mission to digitize and share the Museums collection of artworks with the public. Uses a variety of specialized digital imaging equipment configurations to create image files suitable for the highest levels of reproduction. Digitizes artwork in accordance with Museum and international archival imaging standards. Uses all relevant software tools to match digital files to original works. Ensures the welfare of artwork throughout the imaging procedure. Participates in meetings to determine photographic strategy and production schedules. Advises Assistant Collections Photographers. This position will work with the Imaging and Visual Resources team at MoMAs midtown (approx. 30%) and Queens (approx. 70%) locations.

Additional responsibilities include:

â Photographs works of art including large installation works utilizing various digital imaging equipment.
â Performs system checks using reference targets to FADGI guidelines.
â Participates in meetings to plan a photographic approach that will best communicate the important elements of individual collection objects.
â Performs condition photography of artwork as needed.
â Edits digital image files to museum standards.
â Digitizes archival documents.
â Ensures welfare of works of art during imaging.
â Performs basic equipment maintenance and troubleshooting.
â Stays current regarding emerging trends equipment and standards in cultural heritage imaging.
â Assists other photographers as necessary.
â Maintains record logs of imaging progress.
â Advises Assistant Collections Photographers regarding imaging techniques.
â Communicates any workflow or system inconsistencies to Imaging Manager when appropriate.
â Performs digital print output.
â Meets productivity goals as outlined.
â Performs any other duties reasonably related to the functions described above.

Requirements:

â Bachelor of arts bachelor of science or bachelor of fine arts degree in photography and three years professional digital photographic experience including studio work or equivalent. Minimum two years imaging fine art or cultural heritage objects.
â Working knowledge and technical skill in high-resolution digital imaging procedures equipment and lighting for cultural heritage imaging.
â Ability to use medium-format studio cameras and expertise in controlled photographic lighting.
â Knowledge of major artists and movements of modern and contemporary art history.
â Skill at rendering essential aesthetic elements of works of art as they translate to photographic images
â Solid working knowledge of the Mac operating system.
â Advanced knowledge of Photoshop and relevant image processing software.
â Excellent color judgment and ability to make own color corrections.
â Basic 35mm camera video skills.
â High level of organizational skill.
â Experience with handling fine-art works on paper preferred.
â Flexibility to work at MoMAs midtown and Queens locations.
