Job Summary:

The Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Madison seeks to fill two tenure-track positions at all ranks with a distinguished academic record and exceptional potential for innovative research in biomedical engineering. Additionally a candidate whose research in their fields complements the departments existing strengths in Tissue Engineering/Biomaterials Cellular Engineering Neuroengineering Biomechanics Biomedical imaging and optics and Medical Micro technologies would be of particular interest. The candidates research should have clear implications for improving human health. The ideal candidate will be interested in collaborative work with existing centers and faculty in the Department of Biomedical Engineering and throughout campus.

Additional Information:
The Department of Biomedical Engineering in the College of Engineering at UW-Madison enrolls approximately 700 undergraduate students and 120 MS and PhD graduate students from all over the world. The Department has 24 Primary Faculty 62 Affiliate Faculty 5 Teaching Faculty 3 Emeritus Faculty 16 Staff with state expenditures exceeding 2 million annually and research expenditures exceeding 10 million annually. The University of Wisconsin-Madison has a long history of interdisciplinary collaboration between departments and colleges. A faculty member recruited in this specialty area will have the opportunity to closely collaborate with clinical and basic science faculty in the College the School of Medicine and Public Health the School of Pharmacy the School of Nursing School of Veterinary Medicine as well as from multiple research centers at UW-Madison including the Carbone Cancer Center Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine Center Cardiovascular Research Center and McPherson Eye Research Institute.

    Key Job Responsibilities:

    Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses and contributing to curriculum updates and innovations to educate a diverse student body; mentoring graduate students and supervising their research; developing and directing a well-recognized and extramurally funded research program; participating in departmental and university faculty governance; contributing to professional and public service; participating in interdisciplinary and collaborative efforts with other departments schools and colleges.

    Required Qualifications:

    • Candidates will have a demonstrated record of academic achievement such as peer-reviewed publications and grant awards appropriate for the appointment level exceptional potential in establishing a world-class research program in BME related fields and a commitment to high-quality undergraduate and graduate instructions. Associate and Full professor candidates must possess experience and scholarly credentials that meet the tenure standards of the UW-Madison Divisional Committee and of the College of Engineering.

    Education:

    • PhD Biomedical Engineering Mechanical Engineering Chemical Engineering Electrical Engineering Biological Sciences Physical Sciences or related field with demonstrated excellence in research and teaching.
