ABOUT THIS ROLE
As a Lead Software Development Engineer its up to you to define design and refine the tech that keeps us one step ahead of listeners. Anticipate. Innovate. Bring challenging ideas and well support you with the latest tech tools and systems that you need to succeed. Youll be essential in ensuring the team can reach their potential; working closely with them reviewing their work mentoring and supporting them to develop. Together youll build and maintain our platform to bring thousands of stories to millions of listeners and unleash the power of the human voice.

ABOUT THE TEAM
Audibles Consumption services platform engineering group is responsible for building core platforms that support our surface teams such as iOS Android and Web. This groups mission is to build services tools and infrastructure that would support surface teams helping them build product features faster and promote consistency across surfaces. The group currently manages a server side rendering platform which is driving Audibles server driven UI strategy across apps and web. This is a fast growing org which is also breaking ground on numerous other platforms that has potential to shape Audibles technical strategy for the next decade

As a Lead Software Development Engineer you will...
- Independently lead complex technical initiatives within your team
- Mentor and lead developers by cultivating curiosity and deep technical understanding
- Explore technical needs and bring solutions to the table
- Set the technical strategy for your team
- Collaborate with stakeholders to imagine design develop test and launch scalable and maintainable software that impacts our customers and inspires your peers
- Independently clarify technical requirements assessing development estimates and apply a broad range of design approaches
- Drive continuous improvement of software quality customer experience and maintainability of products/features
- Stay on top of technology trends tools and approaches

- 4 years of software development experience
- 3 years of programming using a modern programming language such as Java C or C# including object-oriented design experience
- 2 years of contributing to new and current systems architecture and design (architecture design patterns reliability and scaling) experience
- Experience reading and understanding complex code
- Experience building complex software systems that have been successfully delivered to customers

- Proficient in a broad range of data structures and algorithms knowing when it is (and isnt) appropriate to use them
- History of assuming responsibility for a teams architecture and providing a system-wide view to stakeholders
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to navigate highly complex and ambiguous situations independently
- Able to make improvements to the teams development and testing processes

- Experience building and delivering software systems to internal or external customers
- Knowledge of AWS or similar cloud-based infrastructure and/or developer tools
- Strong verbal and written communication skills enabling effective messaging with both technical and non-technical audiences
- A high-quality bar: documentation unit testing code reviews test automation continuous integration & deployment. Enthusiasm for instilling this attitude in others
- Adaptable enterprising and willing to take ownership
- Able to make improvements to the teams development and testing processes
- Able to establish good working relationships with peers. Able to recognize discordant views and take part in constructive dialogue to resolve them
- Able to mentor teammates on team software team culture and customer obsession

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $151300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $261500/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge skills and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered equity sign-on payments and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package in addition to a full range of medical financial and/or other benefits.
