Job Summary
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Purchasing Specialist to join our new plant in Pune India. This role will be responsible for cost-effective procurement of assigned materials and services to support both plant start-up and ongoing operations.
In Phase I the focus will be on import purchasing including sourcing from global suppliers managing import documentation and ensuring compliance with customs and regulatory requirements. As the plant ramps up the Purchasing Specialist will expand responsibilities to include more local sourcing supplier development and ongoing material management.
The Purchasing Specialist will work closely with engineering operations logistics and suppliers to secure high-quality materials and services that meet production and new product development needs while driving cost efficiency and operational excellence.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
These duties are not all-inclusive; other duties may be assigned.
- Phase I Import Purchasing: Manage international supplier sourcing import documentation shipping and customs compliance to ensure timely material availability for the new plant.
- Plant Procurement Support: Ensure timely and cost-effective purchasing to support production maintenance and plant operations in Pune.
- Supplier Management: Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers ensuring performance in delivery quality and cost.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with Engineering Operations and IPD Purchasing Specialists to align purchasing activities with production schedules and new product development requirements.
- Negotiation: Negotiate pricing terms and contracts with suppliers to achieve cost savings and long-term value.
- Systems & Data: Maintain accurate lead times purchase orders and supplier data in procurement systems.
- Process Improvement: Identify and implement improvements in procurement efficiency including digital tools such as EDI or barcoding.
- Compliance: Ensure all purchasing activities adhere to company policies business controls and applicable import/export regulations.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelors degree.
- 5 years of purchasing supply chain or related experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with import purchasing international logistics and customs compliance.
- Familiarity with purchasing policies procedures and business controls.
- Background in manufacturing operations or engineering environments.
- Strong negotiation and supplier management skills.
- Ability to work cross-functionally in a fast-paced plant-based environment.
