CBC Calgary is looking for a Producer to lead our provincial daily open line show Alberta at Noon. Alberta at Noon is the only provincial call-in program and plays a key role in ensuring that a diversity of Albertans voices are heard in CBC programming. The program is the place for informed conversation on topics that are both in the news and in the zeitgeist.
Based in Calgary and reporting to the Executive Producer of Programming and working closely with the host of the program you will oversee the daily production of Alberta at Noon including formulating a daily call-in question booking guests writing background and question-lines. You will collaborate with colleagues in news and current affairs in Calgary and Edmonton as well as in our bureaus to ensure the program is covering issues that are important and relevant to Albertans.
We are looking for a dynamic journalist with a broad understanding of the news landscape of the province and has a knack for understanding how to get the audience talking. You will need exceptional critical thinking skills and attention to detail.
In this role you will ensure that all CBC journalistic standards are met and that our stories are fair balanced accurate thoughtful immediate and resonate with the communities we serve.
As the industry shifts local news and community storytelling is more important than ever. You understand the diverse and changing population in Alberta and the importance of reflecting all our communities in our content.
You live and promote an inclusive and respectful work culture. You have a solid understanding of the diverse culture of southern Alberta.
Key Tasks:
Design and develop ideas and concepts for the show.
Suggest subjects and treatments.
Ensuring the production of all aspects of the reports: conducting the preliminary interviews writing the interview texts collaborating with the editor performing the studio interviews taking care of the audio editing writing the texts for digital services and social media.
Book studios and lines.
Coach and supervise the work of other team members.
Play a leadership role where appropriate.
What youll bring:
Strong journalistic skills with excellent news judgment and the ability to work effectively under 24/7 online newsroom deadline pressure.
Experience vetting editing (including story structure) fact-checking and packaging news content.
Leadership coaching and mentoring skills with the demonstrated ability to motivate teams and encourage creativity.
High-level knowledge of legal and ethical issues related to journalism.
Extensive knowledge of the issues and diverse communities of southern Alberta.
Ability to manage large volumes of fast-moving information and ensure material is directed appropriately.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Strong team player.
University degree or equivalent.
Minimum seven years recent experience in a multi-platform news environment.
