This position is designed to introduce and build essential hands-on skills that differ from those attained in the academic area and help to enhance the transition from student to professional.
This position is expected to begin in May 2026.
Internships are designed to introduce and build essential hands-on skills that differ from those attained in the academic arena and help to enhance the transition from student to professional. Interns are assigned duties that will provide a broad well-rounded learning.
Internships at AECOM offer students in undergraduate and graduate programs the opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience in engineering design and infrastructure projects that make a real-world impact. Job responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
- Perform assignments requiring the application of standard techniques procedures and criteria to carry out engineering tasks. Assignments are designed to further develop judgment and understanding of professional and ethical responsibilities.
- Exercise judgment limited to developing details of work in making preliminary selections and adaptations of engineering alternatives
- Water / wastewater treatment evaluation and design.
- Pump station evaluation and design.
- Water distribution system hydraulic modeling analysis and design.
- Sewer collection system evaluation and design.
- Stormwater modeling analysis and design.
- Prepare design drawings plans sections details and profiles/sections within the Autodesk Civil 3D and/or AutoCAD MEP.
- Assist in the development and application of hydrologic and hydraulic modeling and analyses related to floodplain management studies and a variety of water resource projects
- Prepare engineering related calculations and develop drawings and visual aids
- Work under supervision of a project manager or senior-level team member

- A GPA of 3.0 of higher
- Ability to work productively in a collaborative team environment and demonstrate growth potential as well as a desire to learn
- A strong sense of commitment a willingness to learn and a desire to work in a dynamic deadline driven environment
- Knowledge of hydrologic and hydraulic engineering concepts through coursework or work experience
- Proficient in Microsoft Office programs
- Detail oriented while still able to understand/comply with the big picture/goals of a project
- Ability to multi-task
- Strong logic skills and writing skills
- Good communication skills
- Documents time and effort accurately
- Work under supervision of a project manager or senior-level team member
