The overall goal of our nutrition programs is to connect the Cafeteria Classroom and Community to improve student health and well OVERVIEWThe School Cafeteria Manager is responsible for managing kitchen staff ensuring the preparation of compliant and nutritious meals maintaining food safety standards and coordinating inventory and scheduling. The Cafeteria Manager will also serve as a key liaison between the school principal quadrant coordinator and the Nutrition Department to ensure smooth operations and adherence to meal service regulations. The manager will ensure staff compliance with food safety practices provide leadership on the floor and ensure a positive productive work JOB FUNCTIONS (may be included along with other responsibilities)Staff Management & Scheduling: Create and maintain staff schedules including prep cleaning and break schedules. Ensure that staffing levels align with meal service the delegation of tasks across staff including cooks helpers and other kitchen inventory management and storage responsibilities to appropriate staff and ensure proper organization and rotation of personnel concerns address conflicts and seek assistance from the Culinary Supervisor or Human Resources Supervisor as that staff members are working their assigned hours and adjust schedules as that additional hours are distributed equitably following the departments designated -train staff in different kitchen positions and rotate them across multiple locations to build flexibility and improve team skill pre-shift meetings to discuss daily goals meal expectations and any issues that may Production & Compliance:Oversee production records completed by the cooks ensuring accuracy and compliance with food safety and meal service -in and/or assist with cooking as needed when no substitute is a strong understanding of every position within the kitchen to assist and provide guidance when every meal is a compliant reimbursable meal by following district and USDA guidelines for meal cooperatively with the school principal to ensure smooth operations during meal best practices for customer service food safety and kitchen operations fostering a culture of excellence among in compliance with meal service regulations ensuring that all meals are served to meet health safety and nutritional Management:Order food produce and kitchen supplies in a timely and cost-effective directly with the quadrant coordinator to ensure the necessary supplies are ordered and delivered awareness of inventory levels at all times and ensure inventory is organized and stored inventory is labeled dated and rotated according to the FIFO (First-In First-Out) monthly physical inventory recorded and Food Safety & Allergen Management:Ensure all food safety guidelines including ServSafe are followed by kitchen staff. Ensure staff members are compliant with food allergen protocols and that allergens are properly managed during food preparation and necessary temperature logs production records and other documentation to ensure compliance with food safety & Training:Provide strong leadership on the floor setting expectations for staff behavior work ethic and customer and train staff to improve performance and efficiency offering constructive feedback and continuous regular training and coaching to maintain high food safety a positive inclusive work environment that encourages collaboration communication and high morale among the your proficiency in kitchen equipment and technology to train staff in the proper use of kitchen tools and in weekly manager meetings to stay updated on departmental goals changes and best feedback through observations and evaluations for cafeteria Oversight:Maintain proficiency in all kitchen equipment and systems to ensure effective training and any issues related to equipment facilities pest infestations or other operational concerns in a timely manner to ensure the smooth functioning of the that the kitchen is adequately prepared for daily operations adjusting plans as needed in response to absences or other proactive in identifying potential problems and addressing them before they affect the Duties:Ensure that all emails memos and communication are checked and responded to in a timely necessary reports and maintain records of inventory meal production staffing hours and other required that all food preparation and serving activities are conducted according to HACCP Duties: Perform any other related duties as requested by the Director of Nutrition Services or the leadership AND REQUIREMENTSMINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:Current CPR certificationCurrent Food Allergen certificationCurrent ServSafe Manager certificationPrevious experience in a school cafeteria food service or institutional cooking to provide strong leadership motivate staff and foster a positive inclusive work -depth knowledge of food safety standards HACCP guidelines and the ability to implement and enforce these standards in a kitchen organizational skills and ability to manage complex schedules for kitchen staff and meal to communicate clearly and effectively with other kitchen staff administrative staff and students in a respectful and professional with computers Google Suite and kitchen equipment management to lift up to 40 lbs. and perform physically demanding tasks including lifting bending and to stand or walk for 95% of the to follow written and verbal to manage and prioritize multiple tasks be available to work at any school site within the city as designated with respect to the contractual bidding QUALIFICATIONS:One (1) or more years of leadership YEAR: This is a 42-week school-year position including: 180 pupil days plus the 3 days before students report to school and 3 professional development days during the school year. Additional professional development hours may be required to obtain required certifications. Additional hours over summer vacations may be available based on need but are not DAY: 8 hours per daySALARY: This position is represented by the NAGE R1-16 Cafeteria Workers union and the salary is determined by the appropriate step on the Cafeteria Manager salary schedule.
