Job Summary

The Mathematics Department in the Bailey College of Science and Mathematics at California Polytechnic State University San Luis Obispo is seeking to fill a full-time academic year tenure track positions in mathematics education with appointment beginning August 17 2026.

Appointment at the Assistant Professor rank is anticipated; higher ranks will be considered. Rank and salary are commensurate with qualifications and experience of the individual selected.

• If appointed at the Assistant Professor rank the anticipated hiring range is $97788 - $107628.
• If appointed at the Associate Professor rank the anticipated hiring range is $112500 - $118524.

Excellence in teaching an active program in research and scholarship and departmental service are expected. Primary duties and responsibilities are to teach undergraduate mathematics courses for future elementary and secondary teachers as well as other mathematics courses and to maintain an active scholarship program that provides research and practical experiences for undergraduate students. The department specifically seeks candidates in mathematics education that complement department needs.

The selected candidate will pursue a systematic program of research and scholarship curricular improvement and participate in service activities including committee service student advising and building industry relationships.

• Expertise in an area compatible with or broadening the research activities of the department. Special areas of interest include elementary mathematics education secondary mathematics education undergraduate mathematics education K-12 teacher preparation and professional development mathematics curriculum development and active student-centered learning in mathematics classrooms.
• Interest in teaching mathematics content courses for future elementary school teachers.
• Experience and commitment to excellence in teaching mathematics at the university level. Applicants should be comfortable teaching a variety of mathematics courses.
• Experience supervising undergraduate student research.
• Interest in pursuing opportunities for funding or participating in grant activities with colleagues.

Special Conditions

The person holding this position is considered a mandated reporter under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.

The Cal Poly Mathematics Department has approximately 33 tenure track faculty 24 full-time and part-time lecturers 2 Frost postdocs 11 graduate teaching associates 2 administrative staff and 275 math majors.
