Job Summary
We are seeking a motivated Entry-Level Diesel Mechanic to join our Bismarck service team. This role is ideal for a recent graduate from a diesel technology program or someone with 1-2 years of hands-on experience in diesel repair. Youll work alongside seasoned technicians on preventive maintenance diagnostics and repairs for Class 6-8 trucks and trailers. Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine inspections oil changes and preventive maintenance on diesel engines transmissions brakes and electrical systems.
- Assist senior mechanics with diagnostics using tools like OBD scanners multimeters and air gauges to identify and resolve mechanical issues.
- Disassemble repair and reassemble components such as fuel systems exhaust aftertreatment and suspension parts under supervision.
- Document all work performed in detail using our digital service management software including parts used and labor hours.
- Maintain a clean and organized workspace adhering to safety protocols and OSHA standards.
- Support parts department by identifying required components during repairs.
- Participate in on-the-job training and manufacturer certification programs to expand your expertise.
Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent; technical diploma or certification in diesel mechanics or heavy-duty truck repair preferred.
- Experience: 1-2 years of experience repairing and maintaining heavy-duty diesel trucks (e.g. Kenworth Peterbilt Freightliner Volvo or Mack).
- Skills:
- Basic knowledge of diesel engine principles hydraulic systems and air brake technology
- Familiar with diagnostic tools (e.g. Cummins Insite Detroit Diesel Diagnostic Link or OEM software) and hand/power tools.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals wiring diagrams and hydraulic schematics.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail and a safety-first mindset.
- Reliable attendance and team-oriented attitude
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift heavy parts (up to 5075 lbs.) work in confined spaces (e.g. under truck chassis) and perform tasks in various weather conditions.
- Drivers License: Valid drivers license required; CDL (Commercial Drivers License) with appropriate endorsements strongly preferred.
Preferred Skills
- Familiarity with Freightliner or Detroit Diesel systems.
- Experience with diagnostic software like DiagnosticLink or Jaltest.
- Basic welding or fabrication skills a plus.
