The Division of Capitol Security and Visitor Services (CSVS) provides security operations and technology support of the 468-acre Capitol Campus and the seat of Washington State government. The Capitol Campus is a symbol of representative democracy and is a destination location where citizens regularly exercise First and Second Amendment rights in permitted and unpermitted rallies and protests. The campus serves:

  • More than 7500 employees of 40 agencies working on-campus
  • Elected officials to include 49 Senators 98 House members 9 Supreme Court Justices the Governor and 8 other elected officials
  • Civic education tours provided to more than 25000 children each year
  • Hundreds of thousands of people visiting the campus buildings and grounds annually including public tours and people attending events
In addition to serving the Capitol Campus CSVS provides optional security services to agencies statewide in both leased and owned facilities.

Who we are looking for:
This position delivers innovative solutions that contribute to the DES mission by acting as one of the Capitol Security Locksmiths. The position is responsible for the installation maintenance and repair of building door hardware and locksets as well as supporting campus physical security systems (access control video management duress etc.).

Results matter here. We are looking for a doer; someone who has a strong work ethic and has the ability to hit the ground running. You must have extensive locksmith experience and aptitude for installation and operation of physical security systems.Technology is also a focus as youll be working with it on a daily basis and will regularly be introduced to new technology systems.You hold confidentiality in the highest of regard as it is necessary in this field and is required by our customers and law enforcement partners. Duties


Some of what you will enjoy doing:
You will serve as part of the critical security infrastructure team. Combining several business lines you will support multiple types of security infrastructure systems such as access control security cameras door locking hardware and related hardware/software technologies. You will carry out installation maintenance and repair of these systems in collaboration with other technicians on the team. These duties may involve working with a variety of equipment and tools to install maintain and repair system components to ensure the security of the buildings and the safety of all campus users and employees. You may also be responsible for keeping records of work performed and maintaining inventory of supplies and equipment.


Physical Access Control:

  • Install and maintain all aspects of building door hardware and locksets.
  • Provide project specifications for doors door hardware and locksets.
  • Respond to request for services for:
  • Broken keys
  • Lost/Stolen keys
  • Locks requiring service and maintenance
  • Routine preventive maintenance
  • Install and configure/pin key cores.
  • Cut keys according to lockset configurations and key assignments.
  • Provides subject matter expertise for construction standards on door hardware and locksets.

Record Keeping/Key Tracking/Key Audits:

  • Maintain accurate records of all assigned keys to state employees contractors and vendors utilizing the SimpleK logging software.
  • Program stock and maintain KeyWatcher key boxes across Campus Buildings.
  • Perform key audits or generate key reports when requested by Capitol Security leadership or customers.
  • Provide regular preventative maintenance on locks and associated door hardware.

Physical Security System Support:

  • Responds to incidents related to mission critical applications and components.
  • Troubleshoot access and determine best course of action for system failures that impact immediate operations and security when primary team members are unavailable.
  • Provide assistance to assigned team when needed for priority system installation repair maintenance and removal.

Communication and stakeholder engagement:

  • Conduct frequent monitoring of the Capitol Security team shop floor plan and all relevant workorders. Update work status work codes and input detailed work notes on a daily basis.
  • Provide timely and accurate stakeholder communication of relevant workorder and project status.
  • Provide accurate and timely project estimates utilizing CSVS Official Estimate guide and Estimate template.
  • Maintain accurate records of daily shift hours and work order billing hours within MainSaver. This may involve using the MainSaver system to log the start and end times of each shift and to track the hours spent on specific work orders.

Security and event operations:

  • Providing system reports for the WSP Campus Security Partners or agency HR Directors
  • Operations of the video management system
  • Archive and export video from the video management system
  • Assist in the deployment of portable vehicle barriers and crowd fencing
  • Assist with campus incident command as directed by Capitol Security leadership to maintain security operations during incidents

Meetings training and other duties as necessary to support the effective delivery of security services:

  • Attend all required meetings with active participation engagement and communication during all required meetings
  • Complete all required agency and program specific training on time.
  • Other duties as assigned by Capitol Security & Visitor Services leadership.

Qualifications


REQUIRED:

  • Three (3) years working in the locksmith trade in a campus/commercial and industrial like environment
  • Interfacing with related security systems in support of overarching physical security plan
  • Ability to work alone as well as in a team environment.
  • (for Permanent employees only)--Genetec certification Pass training and acquire and maintain certification within the first 12 months of hire.


The most successful applicants will also possess the following knowledge skills or abilities:

  • Proficiency in various computer skills including electronic data communication.
  • This position may involve interacting with customers tenants legislators state agencies management and other staff. Customer interactions may include answering questions providing information and assisting with any issues or concerns they may have. This position may involve interacting with these various groups in person over the phone or through email or other electronic communication.
  • In addition a strong understanding of general Microsoft office software is required. These skills may be used to perform a variety of tasks including data entry communication Project management and document creation. Examples are:
    • Microsoft Teams Excel Word and Outlook.
  • Other computer skills may also be required depending on the specific needs of the organization and the duties of the position.



PREFERRED/DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Good communication skills and experience with stakeholder or customer engagement.
  • Electronic access control video management system experience.
  • Low voltage cabling installation termination testing and troubleshooting.
  • IP device programming and troubleshooting
