Description

Buffalo Hearing & Speech is seeking a full time School Nurse - Registered Nurse (RN)to serve as the school nurse at our Buffalo location of our Early Childhood Special Education program. The school nurse is responsible for the general care welfare and safety of our preschool children and staff as well asmaintaining health records anddisseminating medical information.

This position will work year round Monday - Friday. Enjoy paid school breaks!

Job Summary: The school nurse position is responsible for providing daily healthcare and safety for BHSC students and work related first aid treatment for staff. The nurse will also be accountable for the maintenance and dissemination of student health care plans and workers compensation tracking for staff.

Essential Functions
Respond to classroom situations involving communicable diseases including follow-up with children staff and families
Respond to medical emergencies and emergency response drills (e.g. lock-out lock-down etc.)
Review update and sign OCFS site Health Care Plans. Communicate required HCP information with classroom team(s) as required. Ensure Individual Health Care Plans for students are up to date and completed prior to a child entering into our program or within 1 week of childs entry. Communicate required HCP information with classroom team(s) as required. Review childrens individual HCPs on a quarterly basis.
Administer medications to students as needed in accordance with physicians orders
Update student health restriction/allergy list/diet orders and forward to classrooms. Assist with securing alternative food items from the breakfast and lunch vendor to accommodate childrens dietary restrictions and/or food allergies
Purchase stock & distribute first aid supplies for all ECP locations
Assess status of students immunization documentation and completed NYS DOH report/audits
Administer employee PPD testing and organize flu shot clinics for employees.
Enter and scan employee physicals PPDs and staff injuries into HR database.
Evaluate staff injuries and refer staff to Occupational Health facility when needed
Review and report situation/accident reports for all BHSC staff and students to the Professional Board for student injuries and the safety committee for staff injuries.
Serves as a member of the Emergency response team and the Safety and Wellness Committees
Conduct First Aid/CPR and MAT Training for BHSC employees
Prepare and deliver OHSA and HIPPA in-services/presentations for new employees and annually for all staff
Review and post all relevant information from the NYSDOH and the CDC

Education:

Minimum Degree Required: Bachelors degree in nursing from an accredited college or university

Physical Requirements (please select):

Physical actions may include but are not limited to; bending kneeling standing squatting reaching printing crawling and running.

Vision speech tactical and hearing senses adequate to perform job requirements.

Frequent sitting/ standing and when appropriate floor sitting with pediatric patients.
