General Job Description:
Under the general supervision of the principal and assigned teacher the educational assistant performs primarily instructional tasks to meet the objectives and criteria of the specific program assignment.
The general classification of an educational assistant may be defined as one who is available in the classroom as a second supervising adult and who works to assist students as defined by the program performing such duties as reinforcing teacher-presented lessons and skills reinforcing concepts previously taught instruction in English language development cultural presentations and other school related functions.
A certified school instructor administrator or their designee assigns the educational assistants duties. The supervising instructor is responsible for the supervision and yearly evaluation of the educational assistant and for the instruction and supervision of the students in the assistants charge.

Contract Hours: 7
Qualifications:
- Be at least 18 years of age.
- Hold a high school diploma or equivalent.
- The candidate must meet state and federal requirements to obtain a Level III license by qualifying under one of the follow:
Complete a minimum of 48 semester hours of academic credit by a nationally or regionally accredited college or university with at least 15 semester hours in non-remedial coursework that includes 3 hours of language arts/reading or language arts/reading pedagogy 3 hours of writing or writing pedagogy 3 hours of mathematics or mathematics pedagogy 6 hours of reading writing and math readiness or professional education or classroom management teaching assistance or special education or be able to obtain a passing score of 457 on the Parapro assessment.
Physical Requirements:
Sitting standing lifting and carrying (up to 50 lbs) reaching squatting kneeling and depending on the position.
Performance Responsibilities:
In addition to other duties assigned by the principal or supervising teacher the educational assistance shall:
- assist licensed personnel in the school environment including covering classroom when teacher is called away;
- provide assistance with individual program materials;
- assist licensed personnel with student discipline;
- assist in maintaining student involvement in appropriate tasks;
- assist with supplementary work for students & supervise independent study in the school environment;
- help maintain cohesiveness in the school environment;
- display a desire to work with students;
- serve as a role model;
- work as a member of a team;
- communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
- use current technology for instruction and management needs;
- comply with state approved Code of Ethics of the education profession and with state and federal regulations.
