Job Summary

New Heights Charter School is Massachusetts only public school that involves all grades (6-12) in the Early College approach. Nearly all our 11th and 12th graders are full-time students on a college campus with younger students earning college credits at the school. You will join a committed creative team of educators who provide academic and social-emotional support to young people coming from high-need backgrounds ensuring they are college and career ready. We support our staff with a wide array of professional development opportunities and coaching.

As a member of the Academic Leadership Team will take a lead role in the development and fine tuning of our curriculum instructional protocols and procedures observations and evaluations school policies and enrichment activities. Under direct supervision of the Principal the Athletic Director is responsible for coordinating organizing staffing and scheduling all interscholastic athletic events and related activities for the school. Under the direction of the Principal (and the designated District Athletic Coordinator) he/she plans coordinates implements and evaluates the athletic program at the middle and school level in conformance with the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association MIAA.

Competencies

Essential Duties:
  • Assist in the hiring and clearing process of coaches. Require pre-season and postseason meetings with coaches.
  • Assure that coaches and players adhere to the MIAA. and site athletic by-laws.
  • Verify that all athletes are medically cleared have insurance have been released byparents and have signed the Athletic and School Code Of Conduct form.
  • Previous experience in leadership coaching and teambuilding skills to strengthen and cultivate relationships.
  • Schedule all competitions.
  • Provide and organize transportation for all away competition.
  • Provide and organize officials for all home competition.
  • Provide supervision for home competition.
  • Keep records of all awards/letters issued.
  • Verify that all athletes are academically eligible to compete.
  • Purchase all equipment and uniforms.
  • Provide adequate practice and playing facilities.
  • Respond to all parent concerns and calls and notify site administrator of concerns.
  • Respond to all staff concerns and e-mail messages.
  • Be the District Advisor to the Athletic Booster club.
  • Troubleshoot the day-to-day operation of the athletic program.
  • Ensure that each varsity coach maintains an accurate inventory of equipment and materials and file such an inventory with the Principal at the conclusion of each season.
  • Responsible for the development of a schedule of varsity and junior varsity and intramural events and in the absence of the coach prepares a schedule.
  • Responsible for securing officials for all home events.
  • Responsible for the orientation of all coaches regarding site and district policies procedures and expectations and ensures that all coaches comply with MIAA rules and procedures.
  • Works closely with the coaches and the school nurse to schedule athletic physicals andprocesses necessary forms.
  • Serves as a liaison between the athletic booster groups coaches and site administration.
  • Works closely with the staff and site administration to develop and enforce an athletic/academic code of conduct which is consistent with the goals of the staff administration and the district.
  • Responsible for development and oversight of the Athletic Department budget.
  • Assist the Principal in developing a quality athletic program.
  • Assist in the selection of the coaching staff.
  • Coordinate the scheduling of athletic events in accordance with MIAA regulations.
  • Assist in assuring that the athletic program meets League and MIAA regulations.
  • Assist in the requisitioning and issuing of athletic equipment
  • Assist in maintaining an inventory of all athletic equipment.
  • Assist in the responsibility for the care of athletic facilities.
  • Assist in the responsibility for certification of coaching staff and walk-on coaches in accordance with district guidelines.
  • Participates in fundraising letters of recommendation press box awards etc.
  • Adhere to the DESE Title IX and carry out Board Policies and Administrative Procedures.
  • Abide by professional ethics standards established by the school and Board.
  • Assume the responsibility for the safety and welfare of students whenever a danger isobserved on or about the campus.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Principal.
Cultural Leadership
  • Assist the Principal in building a joyful and rigorous school culture
  • Assist the Principal in fostering consistency in academic and behavioral expectations
  • Assist the Principal in collaborating with school staff to support students academic and socio-emotional development
  • Ensure that traditions and rituals that support the schools early college mission are built and maintained grade by grade year to year
  • Support staff to ensure the effectiveness of after-school enrichment programs
  • Support staff to ensure a positive safe and structured culture of high expectations
  • Assist in the supervision of students in the cafeteria(s) halls bus area(s) and Student Culture Center as well as other locations where students congregate when needed.
  • When involved keep accurate records of student disciplinary action and report the same to the principal
  • Communicate regularly with families ensuring they are kept involved with and held accountable for their childrens performance and correspond about school policies as it relates to all events
  • Respond to family concerns promptly and effectively
