Job Description
The Tax Specialist in the Research & Development Tax Credit group researches tax issues conducts fieldwork and supports sales and marketing efforts. The R&D group consists of regional teams directed by a national leader. A Staff Associates primary role will be to work under the direction of a Tax Senior Associate or Manager on projects from beginning to end. They will be tasked with developing and maintaining client relationships as well as delivering a quality work product.
Responsibilities
Conduct fieldwork - Staff will conduct fieldwork specific to the consulting projects. Fieldwork could include visiting the client location touring client facilities investigating relevant facts analyzing accounting information preparing cost lead schedules and cost summary schedules completing appropriate tax computations and preparing written reports summarizing the findings.
- Managers have the primary responsibility to ensure that R&D projects are conducted in accordance with firm standards and completed on time with on budget.
- Candidates must demonstrate strong leadership skills.
- Managers will be tasked with participating in fieldwork which may involve visiting client sites conducting facility tours researching pertinent details analyzing accounting data creating cost lead and summary schedules performing relevant tax calculations and compiling comprehensive written reports outlining the outcomes.
- Managers are expected to have a command of federal and some state R&D rules and relevant court cases.
- Managers will be required to multi-task and manage various project tasks at once. Project managers will be ultimately responsible for the overall project and deliverables.
Required Skills/Abilities
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other MS Office Suites
- Proficient in time management multitasking and meeting deadlines.
Education and Experience
- Bachelors degree / 3.0 GPA minimum.
- Ability to work additional hours as needed and travel to various client sites.
- An advanced degree would be a plus.
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at a time.
