Job Description: Azure Data Warehouse Architect & Workday Prism Integration Lead
Location: Hybrid Remote with periodic onsite meetings in State Capital
Engagement Type: Contract (approx. 6-12 Months with extension)
Project Summary:
A state government agency is undergoing a modernization effort to transition from its legacy SAP system to Workday. SAP
is currently hosted locally on a Microsoft SQL Server with limited integrations including SFTP to at least two downstream systems. As part of the
broader transformation effort the agency seeks to establish a cloud-native data warehouse on Azure with support for future-state analytics via Workday
Prism Analytics.
With SAP scheduled to be sunset the agency intends to preserve historical data for reporting auditing and decision-making addition to cloud
deployment the agency has expressed a requirement to replicate and/or store data locally as a backup to ensure business continuity and compliance with
internal retention policies.
Position Overview:
The agency is seeking a contract Data Warehouse Architect / Engineer to lead the design and implementation of a
modern Azure data warehouse including the migration of SAP data planning for Workday Prism Analytics integration and knowledge transfer to agency IT staff.
The ideal candidate will bring strong cloud architecture experience a track record of delivering secure and scalable data platforms and the ability to
collaborate across functional and technical teams in a public sector environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Assess the existing on-prem SQL Server/SAP environment
Design and implement an Azure-based data warehouse solution (Synapse Azure SQL or Data Lake)
Build ETL/ELT pipelines for the migration of historical SAP data to the cloud
Design and implement local backup/replication strategies to meet continuity requirements
Develop a roadmap for integrating Workday Prism Analytics datasets
Collaborate with business teams to define unified data models (HR Payroll Finance)
Enable Power BI and Prism-based analytics and reporting
Implement role-based access controls auditability and retention policies
Align with state cybersecurity requirements and agency data governance protocols
Produce documentation including architecture diagrams data dictionaries and process flows
Deliver structured knowledge transfer sessions to internal agency staff
Provide technical runbooks and best practice guides for ongoing support
Support post-deployment transition and hand-off
Qualifications:
7 years of experience in data warehouse architecture or data engineering
Deep experience with Azure cloud services (Azure SQL Synapse Data Factory Data Lake)
Proven expertise in migrating on-prem SQL Server environments to Azure
Familiarity with SAP data models and reporting use cases
Experience integrating or supporting Workday Prism Analytics (strongly preferred)
Knowledge of SFTP API-based integrations and hybrid architecture planning
Strong communication documentation and collaboration skills
