Copy Editor/Production Artist ARMY Magazine

The Association of the United States Army (AUSA) is seeking a Copy Editor/Production Artist for our award-winning monthly publication ARMY Magazine. ARMY focuses each month on professional development education strategy doctrine and other current and historical topics. Born as the Infantry Journal in 1910 the publication includes articles letters and opinion pieces by current and former Army leaders of all ranks military and civilian fulfilling one of the core missions of AUSA.

AUSA has a 37.5-hour work week with a shortened workday on Fridays (8 a.m.-1:30 p.m.) and hybrid remote work schedule (3 days in office and 2 days remote). Reporting directly to the Editor in Chief of ARMY Magazine and working closely with the Managing Editor and Art Director the Copy Editor/Production Artist serves as an integral editor for ARMY Magazine article/content and acts as the bridge between the editorial team and the printer ensuring that high-quality content is produced and delivered on time.

Duties include:

  • Copy editing and fact-checking articles and commentaries.
  • Designing and laying out several features and other articles in ARMY.
  • Creating final PDFs and readying them for delivery to the printer.
  • Conducting final checks of the print and digital versions of ARMY each month before it goes to the printer.
  • Editing other AUSA publications as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in a relevant field.
  • 3-5 years of experience in an editorial position for a publication.
  • Army or general military experience/knowledge highly desired.
  • Excellent writing grammar and editing skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of AP style guide.
  • Proficient in InDesign Photoshop Illustrator Adobe Acrobat and Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent organizational skills ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with writers editors and other staff members.
