Your New Role
CNN Sports is a round-the-clock global operation and this role is a key part of our success. The International Sports Editor will be the guiding hand of CNN Sports online coverage during the morning hours and helps set the agenda for the day.
Youll be a strong collaborator able to work across multiple teams while assigning and editing stories that ensure our coverage is well-rounded and capturing the latest news of the day. Working closely with the supervising editor for sports news the international sports editor is a key player in making sure the US-based operation hits the ground running each day. This role will not just be copy editing it is a leadership position that requires strong decision-making skills and performance under pressure during moments when the domestic sports team is asleep. Editing live stories during some nights and weekends may also be required.
Your Role Accountabilities
Work with the supervising editor for sports news and the VP of sports programming to deliver high-quality in-depth stories from across the sporting world
Bring a strong level of expertise on the sporting landscape that results in fascinating stories that engage CNNs audience
Work closely with CNN Sports anchors and correspondents on coordinating story assignments and delivering content for all platforms
Contribute framing and analysis for CNN Sports coverage
Travel to major sports events when requested
Collaborate and work with sports colleagues across WBD networks including TNT Eurosport and others.
Write and edit for CNNs live stories and other live coverage of major sporting events (may include night and weekend hours)
Qualifications & Experience
Extensive experience in journalism
A demonstrated expertise of American and international sports
Strong story editing skills
Strong communication and collaboration skills
Ability to work late nights and weekends as needed
Ability to travel as needed
