Job Summary

ABOUT THE JOB

The Youth Justice Program offers an alternative to custody sentencing for youth in conflict with the law helping them reintegrate into the community. The Youth Justice Worker provides skilled intervention and case management support across four main program areas for vulnerable youth navigating the justice system:

  • Curfew Monitoring: Enforcing court-ordered curfews through phone calls and location checks.
  • Community Work Service: Assisting youth in securing and completing community work service hours ensuring supervision and reporting to probation officers.
  • Non-Residential Attendance Programs: Supporting youth in day programs by maintaining connections providing ongoing support and coordinating with care teams.
  • Intensive Support and Supervision Program: Monitoring compliance with court orders or release conditions and facilitating community-based sentencing support.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Support youth in complying with probation conditions addressing barriers and reducing activities that lead to legal conflicts.
  • Collaborate with youth caregivers probation officers and service providers to develop and monitor individualized service plans (ISPs).
  • Assist youth with life skills development substance misuse awareness education access and employment readiness.
  • Provide individual therapeutic interventions and promote a healthy lifestyle.
  • Lead recreational activities that align with youth goals and interests.
  • Offer crisis intervention support as needed.
  • Attend court as required.
  • Manage case administration including writing intake reports ISPs and monthly progress reports.

  • Interior Community Services is a Municipal Pension Plan (MPP) employer. Part-time employees entitlement to MPP is determined based on the length of service and accrued wages. If the candidate is already a contributing member then enrollment is on hire.


EDUCATION TRAINING and EXPERIENCE

  • Degree (Preferred) in the Human/Social Services field (BSW BA-CYC etc.) or Human Service Diploma
  • Two (2) years of recent related experience working with vulnerable youth in community integration corrections mental health and substance use issues employment services and life skills training.
  • Or an equivalent combination of education training and experience.


SKILLS KNOWLEDGE and ABILITIES

  • Build trusting relationships with youth care teams families and colleagues.
  • Respond effectively to challenging behaviors crises and aggression.
  • Apply a trauma-informed approach when supporting youth with adverse childhood experiences and legal conflicts.
  • Support youth with substance use mental health and emotional regulation challenges.
  • Provide life skills support using a strengths-based approach.
  • Assess situations and implement intervention strategies to facilitate positive change.
  • Apply critical and analytical thinking following directions and adhering to policies and procedures.
  • Manage conflict mediate and facilitate discussions between youth families and community professionals.
  • Provide clear accurate and timely documentation.
  • Make appropriate referrals to community resources as needed.


REQUIREMENTS

  • Valid Class 5 Drivers license (or equivalent) and safe driving record
  • Own vehicle with Business Use and third-party liability insurance of $5 million (reimbursement is provided).
  • Following training is required and provided to the successful candidate free of charge. Existing certification is an asset: Emergency First Aid with CPR-C Mandt (2 days) Naloxone MCFD Privacy Anti-Bullying and Harassment.
  • Consent to Criminal Record Checks with venerable sector search (Reimbursement of related costs upon hire)
  • This position requires Union membership with a 1.85% Union Dues deduction from the pay.



PROGRAM: Youth Justice

LOCATION: Kamloops BC

STATUS: Part-time

HOURS of WORK: 22.5 hours per week

SCHEDULE: Daytime schedule with flexible hours including some evenings and weekends.

REPORTS TO: Program Coordinator

COMPENSATION: $29.17 - $33.49 (Grid 12 as per collective agreement)
