Job Summary (includes but is not limited to the following other duties may be assigned)

This supervised position will allow for a college student who is seeking a career in Analytics to develop professionally as well as to enhance their knowledge with regard to the power generation industry power/gas commodities markets/battery storage and all aspects of Calpine functions. This position will require the individual to work a normal day shift. This job will be based out of the Corporate Office (Houston TX) and may require in-office or work from home hours.

The Project Development Controls at Calpine Corp. works with the commercial and operations groups to analyze plant or battery storage performance of our assets and propose actionable feedback. The team aggregates data and develops models used to assess Calpines fleet of power generation and battery storage assets. Focus is given to budgetary items with an eye on cost-saving initiatives.

Job Responsibilities

  • Supporting model development to assist in evaluation of plant or battery storage assets performance for dispatch and market monitoring purposes
  • Studying all asset making recommendations based on findings
  • Managing data integrity for Calpines Project Development Controls group.
  • Exact summer projects will be determined at the time of the commencement of the internship.

Job Requirements

  • Minimum qualifications include completion of sophomore year and at least 30 credit hours towards bachelors degree in engineering business or other STEM degree.
  • In good standing with a GPA of 3.0 or above
  • Legally eligible to work in the United States now and in the future.
  • Must have strong skills in Microsoft Office i.e. Excel Word PowerPoint
  • Programing skills i.e. Visual Basic or Python is preferred
  • Strong Excel skills (Vlookup Sumifs Pivot Tables Macros)
  • Demonstrated modeling aptitude creating complex Excel models.
  • Ability to apply analytical tools such as Tableau
  • Knowledge of the energy industry specifically the power or utility sector is a plus.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good problem solving and analytical ability
  • Good organization skills and attention to details are essential
  • Must be flexible and able to work harmoniously with others in a dynamic environment.
  • Must be able to self-start and manage multiple simultaneous tasks and priorities.
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from work.
