ABOUT MAICS BEST BUY TEEN TECH CENTER

Best Buy Teen Tech Centers provide tech access training and mentorship to young

people. The Teen Tech Center established with the support of Best Buy and The Clubhouse Network offers young people the opportunity to work on projects they find meaningful to their lives using computers and various other technology. The program provides support and resources for young people to pursue their interests build upon their talents and explore pathways to related the Teen Tech Center youth can design their own music art newsletters robots science simulations computer games animation and more. This location will open this Spring of 2026!

POSITION SUMMARY

Under the guidance of the BGC of MAIC Branch Director the Tech Center Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the programmatic and overall operations of the Teen Tech Center. The ideal candidate is skilled in engaging and developing meaningful relationships with youth from all walks of life including those that may be challenging to reach. This candidate need NOT be an expert in technology yet eager to learn and engage in ongoing professional development opportunities to build upon technical knowledge and skills. A thriving Coordinator is creative highly communicative and confident in networking to recruit teens volunteers contractors and program partners.


POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee the daily operations of the BBTTC ensuring site safety risk management cleanliness etc.
  • Implement annual work plan to meet strategic goals and objectives.
  • Lead youth recruitment and retention efforts that are strengths based and effective which include phone calls to families presentations tabling mailings conflict resolution etc.
  • Provide a fun interactive and supportive space for teens to pursue their interests build upon their talents and increase their awareness of relevant academic and career pathways.
  • Support teens with developing projects by helping them generate ideas setting relevant goals gathering materials and following through with their projects.
  • Prioritize authentic youth engagement by using Youth Program Quality Assessment and The Clubhouse Networks standards and strategies for youth engagement.
  • Establish and maintain mutually beneficial relationships with prospective internal and external program partners.
  • Leverage Best Buy National Partner relationships to expose teens to skill development and media training.
  • Develop training opportunities that meet the relevant developmental needs of teens.
  • Respond and document safety and behavioral support concerns in a timely manner.
  • Maintain manage and track Tech Center equipment ensuring security of tech assets program and software efficiency and troubleshooting. Seek additional IT or technical support as needed.
  • Work among a team to recruit train and provide ongoing support to volunteer mentors.
  • Provide administrative support for The Clubhouse program including keeping records of participants and keeping the Tech Center space organized.
  • Maintain timely and accurate program records requiring data collection entry management.
  • Assist with program reporting requirements by providing club member demographic reports anecdotal evidence/stories photos etc.
  • Assist with program evaluation by administering surveys recruiting for focus groups participating in annual evaluation processes etc.
  • Assist parent organization in fund-raising and publicity for the Best Buy Tech Center communicating the Clubhouse learning philosophy goals and results to external sources.
  • Participate in The Clubhouse Network attending Network meetings sharing ideas and issues and supporting collaborative projects across sites.
  • Maintain the utmost confidentiality when working with teens families and other stakeholders.
  • Participate in ongoing networking and professional development opportunities.
  • Drive established youth routes for pick-up and drop-off as part of daily program operations ensuring safety and timeliness.
  • Additional duties as assigned by supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Proven track record of engaging American Indian youth their schools and families.
  • Minimum three years of experience planning coordination and successful implementation of Out-of-School programs for American Indian youth.
  • Knowledge of Twin Cities American Indian community cultural values and cultural practices.
  • Interpersonal skills including an ability to get along with people of diverse backgrounds and abilities and a talent for making people feel welcome and included in a variety of settings.
  • Computer skills (Google Suite MS Word Excel Outlook and PowerPoint).
  • Knowledge of basic tech education equipment and hardware (computers cameras printers etc.)
  • Knowledge of tech education and media equipment and software (Adobe Suite Makey Makey Oculus Quest etc.)
  • Ability to complete and pass a criminal and driving records check
  • Maintain a valid state drivers license and good driving record to transport youth with an organizational vehicle
  • Ability to contribute to a cooperative collaborative and flexible work team environment.
  • A passion for learning and helping others to learn.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Onsite except when field trips and field work is necessary for youth learning and projects. Days/times of work will be flexible leading up to the opening of the BBTTC. Once operational hours will be Monday through Friday 11:00-8:30PM. Hours/days subject to change with notice which may require mandatory weekends and earlier hours during school release days. Incumbent may spend several hours standing and walking throughout the day. Must be able to lift 50lbs.
