Job Summary

Reports to:VDC Manager


Summary of Position: The VDC (Virtual Design and Construction) Engineer is a position for an individual who can utilize various construction technologies to optimize the success of construction projects. They can work closely with a multitude of teams such as the preconstruction team the project field teams and the self-perform the performance of this role this individual will help develop innovative solutions and be able to adapt to the office and field working environment. As is generally expected of all Blach employees the VDC Engineer will work under the guidance of Blachs Core Values provide excellent customer service to all parties involved in the successful execution of Company projects and abide by Company safety requirements.


Typical Duties:

  • Assisting in implementation/execution of VDC
  • Managing data exchange between VDC stakeholders
  • Assisting with the preparation and facilitation of BIM coordination meetings
  • Working with the internal Blach teams to identify constructability/coordination issues and proposing solutions in RFIs
  • 3D modeling for additional/revised scopes of work needed for coordination
  • Laser Scanning and processing of point cloud deliverables
  • Flying a drone to capture project progress photos
  • Working with Blach self-perform team in generating detailed 3D models and shop drawings
  • Working closely with Blach self-perform team to optimize construction sequencing and installation of prefabricated work
  • Preparing files for Blach self-perform team to be used for robotic layout
  • Assisting with the creation of 2D or 3D site logistics plans
  • Reviewing construction documents such as design drawings submittals shop drawings specifications product data manuals etc. for coordination
  • Commuting to multiple jobsites and working with multiple project teams

Skills/Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree preferably in Engineering or Construction Management
  • Strong communication skills both oral and written
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills; attention to detail
  • Commitment to continuing education and industry involvement
  • Experience or interest in BIM software programs and technology
  • Ability to thrive in a team environment both contributing to larger projects and producing independent work
  • Adaptable to working with different teams with competing demands while producing high quality results
  • Have an innately curious forward-thinking personality looking for ways to push innovative ideas in all aspects of daily tasks while being open to constructability and means and methods feedback from field personnel
  • Organized efficient able to multi-task effectively hardworking dedicated able to thrive in a deadline-driven fast-paced environment while managing multiple simultaneous projects
  • Solid computer skills are required in MS Office Excel
  • Preferred 3D software experience: Autodesk Navisworks Autodesk Revit Autodesk AutoCAD Autodesk Construction Cloud Tekla Structures Faro Scene Trimble Realworks cmBuilder Sketchup


Location: Northern California Bay Area (This position does not include a relocation stipend)


Position Status: Full-time regular business hours non-exempt
