Specialist, Infrastructure Eng (PostgreSQL Database Administrator)

We are seeking a skilled and motivated PostgreSQL Database Administrator with hands-on experience in Amazon Web Services (AWS) to join our growing data infrastructure team. As a mid-level DBA you will be responsible for maintaining optimizing and securing our PostgreSQL databases while leveraging AWS services to ensure high availability scalability and performance.

Key Responsibilities

• Administer monitor and maintain PostgreSQL databases in production and development environments.
• Design and implement backup recovery and high availability strategies using AWS-native tools (e.g. RDS Aurora CloudWatch IAM).
• Optimize database performance through indexing query tuning and schema design.
• Collaborate with DevOps and application teams to support CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code (IaC) practices.
• Implement and maintain security best practices including encryption access control and auditing.
• Participate in on-call rotations and incident response for database-related issues.
• Document database configurations procedures and best practices.

Required Qualifications

• 35 years of experience as a PostgreSQL DBA in a production environment.
• Strong experience with AWS services especially RDS Aurora PostgreSQL EC2 S3 and IAM.
• Proficiency in SQL and PostgreSQL-specific features (e.g. JSONB partitioning extensions like PostGIS or pgstatstatements).
• Familiarity with monitoring and alerting tools (e.g. CloudWatch Datadog Prometheus).
• Experience with scripting languages (e.g. Bash Python) for automation.
• Understanding of database security compliance and disaster recovery planning.

Preferred Qualifications

• AWS certification (e.g. AWS Certified Database Specialty or Solutions Architect).
• Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform or CloudFormation.
• Familiarity with containerized environments (e.g. Docker Kubernetes).
• Exposure to other database technologies (e.g. Oracle SQL Server MySQL MongoDB Redis) is a plus.

• Delivers technology/product optimization migrations and management including technology/product design planning power and environmental management.

• Collaborateswithotherstodevelopmeaningfulmetricsthatdrivefact-baseddecisionson a givenproduct/environment/solution.

• Conducts proactive system maintenance disaster recovery planning data backup and recovery as well as inventory configuration and utility product management.

• Executes production engineering processes incident management root cause analysis problem management change management release management and knowledge management.

• Provides production support for all technology platforms.

• Provides oversight for technical labs and development environments.

May perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Reporting Relationships: Reports to Manager/Director Technology Engineering Manager/Technology Product Manager.

Typical Skills and Experiences:

Education: Undergraduate studies in computer science management information systems or a related field is preferred.

License/Certification/Designation: Technology certifications or designation are not required but encouraged (i.e.: AWS Azure scripting and development languages delivery methods security).

Experience: Four yearsof experience withmoderatelycomplexintegrated solutions and an ability todevelop andmodify existing solutions for specialized needs. Experience with automation of solution configurations deployment and with system management processes and tools. Experience with concepts and solutions:IaaS PaaS SaaSand Package Solutions.

Knowledge Abilities and Skills: Strong communication skills knowledge of planning management and execution of Accelerated Solutions Deliver framework Information Security acumen. Influencing negotiating and priority setting is needed. Insurance/financial services industry knowledge is a plus.

Other criteria including leadership skills competencies and experiences may take precedence.
