Ensure that the amenity and cleanliness of the Municipal District and the maintenance of the infrastructure assets of Hume City Council are maintained and improved.
What youll be doing:
- To conduct pre-start checks and perform routine maintenance on mechanical road sweeping vehicles daily in accordance with approved pre-start check list and maintenance programs.
- To ensure that the vehicle is thoroughly cleaned at the completion of each shift including inspecting the vehicle and reporting any maintenance/repair requirements to the workshop.
- Maintain roads carparks commercial/industrial precincts shopping centres and public places to a high quality using mechanical road sweepers.
- To carry out Councils Road sweeping activities in accordance with the units programs and/or works schedules as determined by the work groups agreements.
- To carry out the collection and disposal of waste/sweepings in accordance with Councils safety policies and procedures.
- Sweeping and removal of all debris litter and vegetation/weeds from all road surfaces as needed and or as directed.
- To actively participate in Continuous Improvement meetings to ensure best practise operations and services.
- To report daily any non-conformances hazards or operational problems associated with the service.
The skills and experience youll bring to the role:
- Understanding of Council Operations in particular cleansing practices.
- Demonstrated ability to operate mechanical road sweepers.
- Current Scarab or MacDonald Johnston mechanical road and footpath sweeper Certificates of Competence would be advantageous.
- Basic Knowledge of Litter Act 1987.
- Basic Knowledge of Councils Waste and Cleansing Operations Programs Policies and Procedures.
- Demonstrated skills in basic repairs and maintenance of vehicles plant and equipment.
- Written and oral communication skills including the ability to communicate with members of the public and resolve minor problems in a courteous and effective manner.
- Understanding of Occupational Health and Safety requirements.
Required Certifications & Qualifications:
- Current heavy truck licence.
- Current drivers licence.
