Job Summary

Summary Statement

Legislative Aides provide House Majority Caucus members with administrative policyand communications support. Core responsibilities include researching and draftinglegislation tracking bills managing constituent services coordinating communicationsserving as a liaison to agencies and stakeholders and representing members at meetingsand events.

Essential Functions

A Legislative Aide is generally assigned to two or three Caucus members and may also be designated to support specific committees with dedicated research and administrative assistance. Because the role involves frequent interaction with constituents the news media and public officials Aides must use sound judgment tact and discretion in handling sensitive and confidential information. Assignments are diverse often with competing deadlines requiring the ability to work independently prioritize effectivelyand manage multiple tasks under tight time frames. The position also requires commuting to Legislative Hall in Dover for approximately 75 days each year.

  • Research and analyze legislative and policy issues monitor the progress of legislation prepare concise briefings and materials for members and assist in shaping effective legislative strategies.
  • Manage constituent inquiries and casework resolve issues in a timely manner and maintain strong positive relationships with constituents.
  • Attend assigned committee meetings providing timely and accurate support to the Caucus and individual members to facilitate effective engagement in the legislative process.
  • Represent members at meetings community gatherings and other forums; provide and collect information and report back to stakeholders.
  • Draft speeches talking points op-eds newsletters letters and other written materials.
  • Serve as an effective liaison to state agencies federal and local officials theGovernors Office interest groups and the general public; provide technicalassistance as needed.
  • Provide counsel and advice to members on pending legislation and current issues.
  • Coordinate with House attorneys; assist in developing and drafting proposedlegislation.
  • Use DeLIS (the legislative tracking system) to manage bill sponsorships reviewdrafts and committee information submit print requests and request roomreservations.
  • Produce electronic newsletters social media posts and mailers; build andmaintain contact lists to grow members e-newsletter audiences.
  • Prepare tailored weekly reports for leadership and assigned legislators onconstituent cases scheduling requests projects and legislative initiatives.
  • Review correspondence and reports; keep members apprised of relevant developments.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Legislative Aide
