AECOM is actively seeking a highly motivated Entry-Level Fire Protection Engineer for employment in the Roanoke Virginia office.  AECOM is pleased to include you in a unique development opportunity the Graduate Development Program (GDP). This program is designed to support your assimilation into the organization and assist with creating a foundation of knowledge for a successful career at AECOM. Under the responsible charge of a Professional Engineer the successful candidate will:

  • Perform assignments requiring application of standard techniques procedures and criteria to carry out engineering tasks. Assignments are designed to further develop judgment and understanding of professional and ethical responsibilities.
  • Exercise judgment limited to developing details of work in making preliminary selections and adaptations of engineering alternatives.
  • Prepare engineering related calculations and develop drawings and visual aids.
  • Assist with the design of fire protection systems for commercial and institutional facilities.
  • Identify risks and design safeguards that aid in preventing controlling and mitigating the effects of fires.
  • Assist architects building owners and developers in evaluating buildings life safety and property protection goals.
  • Work under supervision of a project manager or senior-level team member.
  • Prepare basic deliverables and products such as presentation materials calculations design drawings specifications cost estimates related to fire protection engineering.
  • Review applicable codes and criteria and examine field conditions as required to support development and completion of projects.
  • Assist lead engineer in project design or site survey tasks as required.
  • Provide egress and fire modeling assistance using FDS or other software.

Qualifications :

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical engineering Fire Safety engineering or other related field required.

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Experience using spreadsheet word processing and standard office software.
  • Basic knowledge of industry standard computer software for the position (examples include software such as CADD Revit HCS AutoCAD Hydraulic models).
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) preferred.
  • AutoCad or Revit certification preferred.
