Biodiversity & Food Transition Internship

DLL is a global asset finance company specializing in equipment and technology with active partnerships in more than 25 countries. We provide financing across a wide range of sectors but our work in agricultural equipment is especially relevant to one of the three core focus areas in our sustainability strategy: driving the food transition.

In this role you will help explore the nature-related impacts and opportunities within our agriculture portfolio helping us better understand how our business can contribute to a more sustainable future.

As a Biodiversity & Food Transition Intern you will:

Contribute to the research on how biodiversity affects the global food transition providing insights into DLLs role in supporting this transition.

Assess the impact of traditional agricultural equipment on biodiversity loss and ecosystem degradation.

Evaluate how innovative technologies such as laser-based alternatives to pesticides or precision ag tools that minimize soil disturbance can promote ecological balance.

By identifying both risks and opportunities your work will help DLL and its partners and customers make informed sustainable decisions that align with the goals of biodiversity preservation and responsible asset financing.

Day to day:

Your daily activities will include:

  • Conducting research and building expertise on the relationship between agricultural equipment and biodiversity strengthening DLLs expertise on the topic.
  • Analyzing the impact of conventional vs. more sustainable (e.g. precision agriculture) equipment on biodiversity and ecosystems.
  • Developing and implementing a research methodology for data collection (e.g. on-the-ground data collection end-user surveys).
  • Identifying technologies with positive biodiversity outcomes (e.g. laser weeding).
  • Presenting research outcomes to internal stakeholders.

The exact internship topic can be tailored to align with your academic requirements and personal interests and will be enriched with insights from our industry experience.

As time and interest allows you may also

  • Support the team with a range of internal tasks including ad-hoc research and event organization.
  • Support DLLs sustainability strategy with evidence-based insights.
  • Stay up to date on trends in sustainable agriculture and biodiversity.
  • Contribute to DLLs broader sustainability goals.

Compensation:

The internship will start in February (start date can be discussed). You will receive an internship allowance of 500 gross per month based on a 38-hours a week.

Essentials:

  • Enrolled in a Masters program in Environmental Sciences Resilient Farming and Food Systems Ecology and Biodiversity Sustainable Business and Innovation or related field
  • Strong interest in biodiversity food systems and sustainable innovation
  • Experience with qualitative and/or quantitative research methods
  • Comfortable engaging with external stakeholders (e.g. farmers manufacturers)
  • Excellent communication skills in English
  • Able to work independently and manage an internship project
  • Based in the Netherlands and enrolled at a Dutch university

Extras:

  • Familiarity with agri-tech innovations or biodiversity metrics
  • Experience with survey tools or data analysis software
  • Passion for sustainable development and systems thinking
