Job: EMS Chief Classification: Salaried Exempt
Position Summary The EMS Chief plans organizes directs coordinates and guides the operation to produce a quality service to the community. The EMS Chief interprets and executes policies/procedures to achieve the broad overall aims of the organization develops implements and administers policies through key personnel.
Essential Functions -Maintains total organizational perspective. -Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of and compliance with all protocols. -Demonstrates documented compliance with the departments goal of attendance at 75% of monthly staff meetings. -Demonstrates knowledge and understand of and compliance with all EMS Department policies and procedures. -Establishes the organizations long-range operational goals and structure including chain-of-command and determine policy. -Develops and demonstrates an effective motivational climate in the organization conducive to growth and innovation. -Ensures that all personnel are fully informed and perform in accordance with policies procedures and protocols and all federal state and local EMS regulations. -Establishes information networks and communicates with Administration and subordinate management positions. -Demonstrates expresses and reinforces ethical beliefs and behavior. -Participates in the annual review of the Departments policy and procedure manuals and safety and infection control programs. -Works with the medical staff to coordinate medical management of EMS patients. -Utilizes and promotes familiarization with quality assurance standards and programs. -Is concerned with public relations and aware of organizational obligation to be responsive to social needs in the community. -Delegates responsibility to others accompanied by the corresponding authority to fulfill those responsibilities -Is articulate and capable of communicating both verbally and in writing. -Conducts performance evaluation for staff including evaluations for new staff members upon completion of their trial period. -Evaluates patient care. -Focuses on company integrity and business reputation and works to protect the integrity and stability of the organization. -Maintains membership in state and national trade associations. -Demonstrates leadership and management abilities. -Demonstrates effective oral/written communication skills. -Demonstrates knowledge of emergency vehicles and equipment theory and practices of EMS and operations of advanced/specialized emergency medical treatment and of the laws that govern EMS operations on a Local State and Federal level. -Adheres to hospital local and state guidelines. -Demonstrates knowledge of the streets highways and communities in surrounding areas. -Is Familiar with the purchasing requisition system capital expenditures composing budget and comprising a work schedule. -Adheres to and follows all patient experience initiatives. -Reports to and departs from work on time and as scheduled. -Performs other duties as assigned. -Must be able to deal with stress while maintaining composure. -Follows and adheres to TRMC vaccine policy(s) mandated by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).
Work Experience -Five years field experience in a developed ambulance service preferred. -Three years in a supervisory position in Public Safety or Industrial fields or other supervisory position preferred. -Must be at least the minimum age as outlined by the insurance provider in order to meet requirements to drive emergency vehicles.
Education -Current Certification or Licensure by the Texas Department of State Health Services as a Paramedic required. -Current insurable Drivers License required. -BLS (Basic Life Support) within 30 days of hire date. -ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) within 30 days of hire date. -PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) within 30 days of hire date. -ITLS (International Trauma Life Support) or equivalent certification is preferred. -FEMA certifications are required within a year of hire date and include the following: ICS 100 ICS 200 ICS 300 ICS 400 ICS 700 and ICS 800.
