Job Summary

TITLE: Diversion/Teen Court Youth Development Professional (YDP) (Part-Time)
Term: School Year
REPORTS TO: Diversion Director / Unit Director
CLASSIFIED: Part-Time Non-Exempt (Evenings/Some Weekends as Needed)
MISSION: To inspire and enable all young people especially those who need us most to realize their full potential as productive responsible and caring citizens.
JOB SUMMARY: The Teen Court Youth Development Professional (YDP) is a key member of the Boys & Girls Club diversion programming team working directly with youth referred to Teen Court. This position is responsible for providing mentorship accountability and structured support while promoting positive behavior change. The YDP ensures a safe engaging and inclusive environment that reinforces the Clubs mission to help all young people reach their full potential as productive caring and responsible citizens.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
YDP RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Supervise and mentor youth referred to the Teen Court program.
  • Provide real-time redirection and support to youth displaying challenging behaviors.
  • Utilize evidence-based behavior strategies to promote safety de-escalate situations and encourage positive outcomes.
  • Build and maintain positive professional relationships with youth while modeling resilience integrity and healthy lifestyle choices.
  • Collaborate with staff volunteers families and schools to maximize program impact while fostering trust accountability and strong relationships with youth and their families.
  • Assist with daily Club programming ensuring inclusive participation for all members especially those requiring additional support.
  • Support all diversion program components including restorative justice activities peer jury proceedings community service skill-building workshops and relevant educational sessions.
  • Monitor participant progress and adjust strategies to support individual growth.
  • Maintain a commitment to restorative justice and positive youth development.
  • Maintain a clean safe and welcoming Club environment for all members.
TEEN COURT RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Maintain consistent communication with the Diversion Director regarding participant progress attendance and overall engagement.
  • Assist with weekly check-ins program intakes and other key meetings.
  • Plan and facilitate Teen Court Club monthly prevention initiatives and other prevention/intervention programming.
  • Support coordination of meetings with partners such as the South Dakota Teen Court Association (SDTCA) Juvenile Detention Alternatives Initiative (JDAI) Workgroup and the States Attorney Office.
  • Recruit train and support both youth and adult volunteers.
  • Conduct weekly travel (510 hours) for school visits home check-ins and other outreach efforts.
ADMINISTRATIVE:
  • Provide Director with accurate up-to-date records of participant progress.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records of community service hours attendance and program outcomes.
  • Assist with program evaluation through data collection and reporting.
  • Regularly review and update program materials forms and essential documents.
  • Communicate regularly with supervisor providing observations updates and recommendations for program improvement.
  • Attend 100% of monthly staff meetings and bi-weekly one-on-one meetings.
  • Participate in trainings special programs and Club events.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support overall program success.
EMPLOYMENT QUALIFICATION:
  • High school diploma or GED required some college coursework in human services social work education or related field preferred.
  • Experience working with teens in a youth development educational or justice-related setting preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage and motivate youth.
  • Ability to remain calm fair and professional when addressing challenging behavior.
  • Commitment to the mission and values of the Boys & Girls Club.
  • Flexibility to work evenings and some weekends to support Teen Court proceedings.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must be of the mental and physical capacity to observe interact and communicate with youth staff volunteers etc. at the Club to ensure safety of the space and others provide guidance and reflection per the Club priority outcomes and goals
  • Ability to stand/sit for long periods of time throughout a shift
  • Ability to operate various types of general office equipment including PC telephone copier etc.
  • This position is considered a safety-sensitive position.
