Job Title: Senior Performance Simulation & Application Engineer

Salary: 55516- 59000 depending on experience

Location: Peterborough Cambridgeshire UK

Contract: Permanent

About IPSD

Caterpillars Industrial Power Systems Division (IPSD) designs tests and manufactures 0.5 to 18L Cat and Perkins engines that power over 5000 applications including Marine Petroleum Industrial Applications Electric Generators and Locomotives. Caterpillars company strategy includes sustainability as one of four focus areas and IPSD is engaged and actively preparing green energy solutions for the future.

Job Summary

The Certification team is responsible for the delivery of product power & emissions certification and conformity testing to global engine performance and emissions regulation standards. The team applies deep technical knowledge to regulation compliant test execution ongoing performance & emissions conformity monitoring generating regulation compliant test reports and test data to ensure that our product portfolio meets international emissions standards.

This is a highly visible team that works directly with all areas of engineering and will at times report out directly to our product groups. Working closely with the Performance Systems Integration engineering team and Emissions & Power Systems Regulatory Compliance team to deliver engine emissions certification & conformity testing to the highest standards to all engine emissions regulations.

What You Will Do

  • Plan schedule & execute engine performance & emissions testing across all Caterpillar Medium Engines products.

  • Working with the Test & Development Engineering Test operations and Facilities Emissions teams to ensure quality data is achieved.

  • Process owner of the In-Service Monitoring Program for IPSD-M products in line with EU regulation requirements.

  • Conduct and/or direct engine performance and emissions tests checking data quality test result integrity and regulation compliance.

  • Write requirements procedures and reports and formally present on test outcomes.

  • Plan manage and deliver tests to tight time scales and to right quality.

  • Collaborate with global team to drive global alignment and best practices

  • Keep up to date on new technologies and drive continuous improvement to established techniques

Candidates will have gained the following skills and experience through previous roles:

  • Process Management: Knowledge of business process improvement tools and techniques; ability to understand monitor update control or enhance existing business or work processes.

  • Problem Solving: Knowledge of approaches tools techniques for recognizing anticipating and resolving organizational operational or process problems; ability to apply knowledge of problem solving appropriately to diverse situations.

  • Technical Excellence: Knowledge of a given technology and various application methods; ability to develop and provide solutions to significant technical challenges.

  • Effectively perform the technical job aspects continuously building knowledge and keeping up to date on technical and procedural job components.

  • Apply technical operating and project standards based on achieving excellence in delivered products technologies and services.

  • Apply current procedures and technologies to help resolve technical issues in ones general area of technical competence.

  • Helps others solve technical or procedural problems or issues.

  • Project Management: Knowledge of effective project management strategies and tactics; ability to plan organize monitor and control projects ensuring efficient utilization of technical and administrative resources to achieve project objectives. Provides input for Gantt or PERT charts or their equivalent to track project progress and status.

  • Assist in detailed project plans including cost schedule resource requirements and produce standard project status reports.

What You Have:

  • Bachelors degree (or equivalent) in an accredited Engineering curriculum

  • Combustion engine and aftertreatment calibration testing experience

  • Engine performance and emissions certification test experience

  • Knowledge of engine emissions regulations testing requirements

  • Knowledge and experience of various data systems including but not limited to CANape Gryphon Concerto
