Under the direction of the Vice President Business Technology the Data and Business Intelligence (BI) Lead will be responsible for designing developing and maintaining our data platform architecture and business intelligence capabilities. The Data & BI Lead will play a strategic and leadership role as well as be hands on. This role will collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand data requirements implement robust data pipelines deliver reporting and analytics and contribute to the overall data strategy of the organization.
ESSENTIAL AND PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategy & Architecture
Own and develop the long-term strategic goals and roadmap for the data platform reporting and analytics in partnership with data users department managers and other key stakeholders.
Partners with application and data owners to inform data standards and identify key data sets and sources to be integrated in the data platform to allow for insights through reporting analytics and artificial intelligence.
Lead the evaluation recommendation selection and implementation of data components including hardware database management systems ETL (extract transform load) software data mining tools metadata management tools visualization tools and data and analytics distribution solutions.
Develop the overall architecture design patterns development and reporting standards data model metadata and quality assurance policies and procedures.
Solution Delivery
Define and integrate the intake and prioritization of data and reporting work including initiatives projects and enhancements in alignment with IT Governance.
Oversee plan and execute phases of the development life cycle for a variety of data warehouse projects and business intelligence support activities.
Hands on design development testing documentation and implementation of new or modified data models data pipelines and reports.
Defines and ensures the implementation of the delivery process including documentation of requirements functional and technical design specifications testing in close partnership within Business Technology and key stakeholders.
Establishes the approach to drive towards self service and citizen development of reports.
Operations & Maintenance
Responsible for day-to-day monitoring operations and maintenance of the data platform data pipelines and reports.
Design and implement secure systems policies and procedures for disaster recovery and data archiving to ensure effective availability protection and integrity of data assets.
Plan and implement cost effective capacity and resource expansion to ensure data warehouse scalability and performance.
Plan and perform routine operational maintenance of environment and technologies.
Team Leadership
Oversee direct and prioritize the work of direct reports contractors and partners.
Provide performance management and personal development of team members.
Defines and ensures the necessary collaboration and integration within Business Technology and key business and function stakeholders.
Manages budget for team and provides input to budget related items for key stakeholders and teams.
Own and manage relationships with partners and vendors of solutions deployed in the Data & BI environment.

Minimum Experience Education and Technical Skills:
Formal Education:
Associate or bachelors degree in computer science software engineering data and analytics or 15 years equivalent related IT experience.
Knowledge & Experience:
10 years working technical experience with designing building installing configuring and supporting data solutions.
7 years experience with database and data storage data integration and cloud platforms. Azure SQL Server Fabric Data Services Azure Dev Ops preferred.
7 years experience with data architecting data mining data modeling and business requirements gathering/analysis.
7 years implementing end user reporting and analytics solutions. Power BI and Excel preferred.
Familiarity with a wide variety of data sources including applications (ERP HR CRM) Data Systems (GIS Lab) IoT (device and equipment monitoring) and structured and unstructured data.
Strong understanding of data warehouse concepts relational database structures theories principles and practices.
Proven project management experience.
Good knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.

Travel Requirements
Position is primarily remote with the occasional need to come to the office (Bloomington MN).
