What will you do.

  • Pick pack sort arrange count store and accurately process items for storage and/or shipment in accordance with established procedures and customer requirements
  • Sustain a high level of quality to ensure customers receive accurate product and in the time requested.
  • Verify the quality type and amount of materials received are accurate and that the appropriate documentation is present (e.g. packing list).
  • Safely operate distribution equipment as required.
  • Satisfactorily complete Thermo Fisher Scientific training requirements and operate within all ISO standards pertaining to site Distribution including but not limited to Control of Documents and Quality Policy.


Education:

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Experience:

  • Requires a minimum of 0-2 years related experience.
  • Experience in logistics with a life science company preferred.
  • Validated ability to consistently and independently follow policies and procedures instructions and to meet schedules required.
  • Need basic digital literacy to navigate ERP systems Microsoft Office and shipping software.

Knowledge Skills Abilities

  • Good social skills and customer service skills required.
  • Ability to recognize deviation from accepted practice is required.
  • Accuracy is required in performing all functions of this position; errors in work could cause delays in schedules.
  • Must be ready to start work timely daily and maintain strong attendance performance.
  • Ability to receive and complete general instruction on routine work and detailed instruction on new assignments.
  • Equipment training will be provided through one-on-one instruction on-the-job training (OJT) Thermo Fisher Scientific generated Standard Training Protocol (STP) and/or other training documentation.

Working Conditions:

  • Warehouse environment under various temperatures including room temperature (5986 degrees F) cold-room (36-46 degrees F) and/or freezer-room (minus 4 23 degrees F).
  • Perform work of a highly repetitive nature.
  • Will walk stand reach and lift Routinely push and pull up to 50lbs on a continuous basis.
  • May occasionally sit kneel crouch and crawl.
  • May handle packaged hazardous materials.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high
  • Due to business needs must be flexible to work varying schedules hours and overtime as needed.
  • Occasional local travel may be needed between the two facilities (2-3 miles and will be advised in advance)
  • May be required to drive site vehicles including Site box truck/ Van acquire DOT Medical Certification.

How Will You Make an Impact:

The Material Handler I supports operations by storing and shipping materials at temperatures ranging from ambient (room temperature) to -196 degrees C with potentially hazardous properties.

A Day in the Life:

  • Receive incoming raw materials
  • Facilitate movement of materials including hazardous materials across the site
  • Maintain accurate inventory through receipts adjustments and cycle counts

Education:

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Experience:

  • Required: No previous work experience required
  • Preferred: Experience in distribution warehouse or supply chain or related field
  • Preferred: Experience with warehouse equipment

Knowledge Skills Abilities:

  • Able to work independently and set priorities
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills
  • Able to work as part of a team
  • Able to work with methods to handle process and store specimens using a computerized storage and retrieval system

Physical Requirements / Work Environment

  • Able to work in a cold environment with exposure to dry ice liquid nitrogen cryogenics hazardous and infectious agents and marked changes in temperature
  • Must use personal protective equipment (PPE) and adhere to safety protocols
  • Able to lift and carry 50 lbs and push up to 70 lbs
  • Periodically work in walk-in freezers and refrigerators for up to 5 hours per day

Compensation and Benefits

The hourly pay range estimated for this position based in Maryland is $13.82$23.04.
