Job Title: Semiconductor Field Service Technician III
Work Location: Manassas VA Initial training in Japan (36 months) required
Work Type: Onsite
Work Authorization: Only GC / US citizens
About the Role:
The Semiconductor Field Service Technician III will support deployment maintenance and repair of advanced high-vacuum PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition) tools in customer clean-rooms. You will travel to customer sites diagnose hardware/software issues install and calibrate equipment and serve as a direct interface between customers U.S. operations and partner teams in Japan.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform preventive maintenance inspections calibration and repair of semiconductor PVD / vacuum / thin film equipment
- Troubleshoot mechanical vacuum pneumatic electrical and software faults
- Install and upgrade control software; maintain version history and documentation
- Collect diagnostic data and communicate with headquarters / engineering teams
- Participate in new tool installations and qualifications at customer sites
- Manage spare part inventory recommend consumables and spares for preventive maintenance
- Train and support customer engineers in operation maintenance and troubleshooting
- Escalate complex issues to senior engineers as needed
- Maintain detailed field service reports logs and records
- Ensure compliance with clean-room protocols safety rules and customer policies
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- 2 years of hands-on experience working with vacuum PVD or high-vacuum equipment
- Prior work with multi-chamber systems robotics or cluster tools preferred
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical and electrical schematics and drawings
- Experience with PLCs control software and diagnostics is a plus
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently after training
- Valid drivers license and acceptable record
- Domestic and international travel capability (initial training in Japan)
- Ability to lift 50 lbs and perform physical tasks (standing climbing reaching)
- Fluent communication skills in English (Japanese language skills are a plus)
- Willingness to work flexible shifts or on-call support if required
- Must comply with customer security / access / vaccination / safety policies
Working Environment:
- Customer clean-rooms with full clean-rooms gowning (suit mask gloves)
- Exposure to mechanical systems moving parts electrical currents lasers chemicals
- Occasionally working in tight elevated or confined spaces
- Fast-paced high-pressure scenarios where timely issue resolution is critical
