The role

As an Information Access Officer in the Department of Planning Housing and Infrastructure youll play a pivotal role in supporting the department and its network agencies to meet their obligations under the Government Information (Public Access) Act 2009 (GIPA Act) and Parliamentary orders for papers under Standing Order 52. Youll manage formal and informal access applications assist in coordinating returns to Parliament and provide advice on information access matters.

Youll also contribute to the development and improvement of internal processes support statutory reporting and assist with external reviews conducted by the Information and Privacy Commission and the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal. Your ability to interpret legislation manage competing priorities and maintain strong stakeholder relationships will be key to your success.

This is a dynamic role that requires sound judgement attention to detail and a commitment to transparency and public sector integrity.

What you will bring to the role

  • In-depth knowledge of the GIPA Act and/or Standing Order 52 with demonstrated experience in interpreting legislation making formal access decisions and/or coordinating Standing Order 52 returns and providing clear accurate advice.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to collaborate across internal business areas network agencies and external bodies to ensure timely and compliant information access outcomes.
  • Proven ability to manage a diverse workload balancing multiple priorities and deadlines while delivering high-quality sound decisions and advice.
  • A proactive approach to continuous improvement contributing to the refinement of internal processes and the delivery of training to uplift capability across the department.
  • Confidence in representing the department externally including in reviews and tribunals with a professional and ethical approach to sensitive and high-stakes matters.

Key knowledge and experience

  • Demonstrated experience working in an environment requiring interpretation of decision-making under and advice on legislationparticularly the Government Information (Public Access) Act 2009 and/or Standing Order 52.
