Job Summary

The Framingham Heart Study (FHS) conducted by Boston University with the support of the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI) is a community health study committed to identifying the common factors or characteristics that contribute to cardiovascular disease (CVD). Operating continuously since 1948 FHS investigators have followed the development of CVD and other diseases over a long period of time in three generations of participants. FHS participants undergo comprehensive clinical examinations on an intermittent basis in the FHS Research Center located in Framingham. FHS clinical examinations routinely include collection of blood and urine biospecimens that undergo immediate analysis as well as storage for future research work. The latter biospecimens are maintained by the FHS Biorespository currently composed of 2 million biospecimens with the oldest samples dating back to the 1970s. Most biospecimen-associated processes take place in the CLIA-certified FHS Laboratory located at the FHS Research Center. Some biospecimens are stored off-site at Scisafe in Billerica MA. The Biorepository Coordinator performed tasks within the FHS Biorepository including administration and data management and oversight of processes involving the documentation processing storage and distribution of biospecimens from FHS participants in support of ancillary research studies in order to ensure that high quality research data is generated.
