Job Summary

Overview

The Vermont Department of Mental Health (DMH) is seeking a dynamic experienced leader to serve as Policy Director. This senior leadership position plays a critical role in shaping the policy and legislative priorities of DMH in close collaboration with the Commissioners Office and the Agency of Human Services.


As Policy Director you will:
Oversee the development advancement and implementation of mental health policy and legislative initiatives.
Provide strategic guidance on complex mental health issues impacting Vermonters.
Coordinate with state and federal partners legislators advocacy organizations and stakeholders to inform and advance DMHs policy agenda.
Lead policy analysis track legislation and prepare materials that support decision-making at the highest levels of state government.
Work in a fast-paced environment where collaboration flexibility and strong communication skills are key to success.

Position Details:
Location: Primary worksite is the Waterbury State Office Complex with opportunities for telework.
Schedule: Full-time with occasional evening or weekend hours during legislative session.

Environmental Factors

Duties are performed in an office setting. Some travel may be necessary for which private means of transportation should be available. Some evening or weekend work may be required.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelors degree or higher AND five (5) years or more of professional level experience in the mental health or public health field.

Masters degree
