WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:
The primary purpose of this position is to:
  • Assist in developing and implementing training for Alaskan law enforcement on crimes related to domestic violence sexual assault child sexual abuse stalking and sex trafficking.
  • Assist in providing technical assistance to law enforcement and multidisciplinary team (MDT) partners statewide.
  • Assist with the development of online training materials and courses for law enforcement on DVSA related topics; ensure all training records are maintained.
  • Assist in supporting special projects by providing organizational administrative support and maintaining required records; assist with ensuring that departmental policies and procedures are reviewed updated and adhered to.
  • Assist with the reimbursement of forensic exams for municipal agencies; assist with procurement of equipment and training supplies.
  • Represent the department in various capacities; provide overall organizational support to the DVSA unit; and provide basic level training depending on current expertise which may include travel.

THE WORKING CONDITIONS YOU CAN EXPECT:

This position is located at the Scientific Crime Detection Laboratory (Crime Lab) 4805 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Ave in Anchorage nestled at the foot of the beautiful Chugach Mountains. The daily work environment consists of a small team of task-driven individuals. The incumbent will work closely with team members to support the mission. Travel may be required to fulfill job duties. Work outside of normal business hours may be needed on occasion.

  • Required valid drivers license with NO restrictions (i.e. driving in the dark and/or at night)

  • Travel may be required to fulfill job duties.

  • Work outside of normal business hours may be needed on occasion.

  • Preferred but not required: person with background/experience in adult education.

  • Preferred but not required: person with MOI certification.

  • Preferred but not required person: with APSC instructor certificate.

FLEXIBLY STAFFED

This position is flexibly staffed. This vacancy may be filled at either the 1 or 2 level depending on the applicants training and/or experience. The full range of salaries is listed above. Starting salary will be determined by the level the position is hired at. If filled at level 1 promotion to level 2 will occur upon successful completion of the probationary period and required training as well as the applicant meeting the minimum qualifications of the higher job class.

AT TIME OF INTERVIEW:
  • List of two (2) professional references including daytime phone numbers.
    • Professional is defined as a supervisor or an individual who has direct knowledge of your work performance.
  • Copies of all performance evaluations that have been received for the last two (2) years if available
  • If using post-secondary education to meet the minimum qualifications a copy of your transcript(s). These can also be attached to your application at the time of submission.
    • Unofficial copies are acceptable but must have the institution name/URL listed on the transcript.
BACKGROUND CHECK

This position requires the incumbent to submit to a fingerprint based criminal history background check. Due to the sensitive nature of this position and required access to APSIN an applicant with criminal convictions will not move forward in the selection process.
