Position Summary The Director of Human Resources provides strategic and operational leadership for all aspects of Human Resources at Detroit Catholic Central High School. This position is responsible for developing implementing and maintaining HR programs policies and practices that support the Schools mission values and operational goals. The Director serves as a trusted advisor to the administration on personnel matters and ensures compliance with applicable employment laws and Archdiocesan policies. Responsibilities Provide strategic counsel to the Administration on human resources matters including employee relations compliance compensation and workforce planning. Oversee and support the HR Manager in the daily operations of the Human Resources Office. Lead the development and maintenance of employment policies procedures and the Employee Handbook to ensure alignment with legal and organizational standards. Administer and manage benefit programs including medical dental vision disability life insurance COBRA HSA FSA 403(b) and pension plans. Manage open enrollment employee benefit changes and vendor relationships with third-party administrators. Oversee payroll-related functions in collaboration with the Director of Finance. Coordinate professional development and performance evaluation processes for faculty and staff. Ensure compliance with applicable employment laws regulations Michigan and Archdiocesan requirements including Protecting Gods Children. Manage employee relations counseling and disciplinary actions with professionalism and discretion. Maintain accurate HR records and documentation; oversee audits reporting and data integrity. Coordinate Workers Compensation FMLA and Unemployment claims using third-party administrators as appropriate. Support the CFO with HR-related budget preparation forecasting and cost management. Lead HR communications and initiatives that promote a positive mission-centered workplace culture. Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief Financial Officer. Qualifications Bachelors degree in human resources business administration or related field. Masters degree preferred. Minimum of 10 years of progressive HR experience with at least 3 years in a leadership role. SPHR or SHRM-SCP certification preferred. Experience making strategic human resources decisions that align with the organizations vision. Ability to maintain flexibility when faced with complex and ambiguous situations. Strong working knowledge of employment law benefits administration and HR best practices. Exceptional communication interpersonal and organizational skills. Demonstrated ability to lead with integrity discretion and sound judgment. Proficiency in HRIS systems Microsoft Office Suite (Word Excel PowerPoint) Microsoft Teams and Google Workspace. Experience in general accounting and payroll processes preferred. Ability to build and maintain confidential and professional relationships with all constituents. Completion (or willingness to complete) the Archdiocese of Detroits Protecting Gods Children course. Must submit to drug testing fingerprinting and criminal background check.
